I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a sword. Which is rather amusing to me, because I was a the Ronpaul supporter, and I had my épée (fencing sword) in my hand as I was reading this comic.

Re: "Voting Machines" discussion

Ok, its unbreakable. But, as you said, its also extremely impractical. You would have to get the key into every voting machine, and then distribute this all over the country. You have to put a different key in every voting machine. Like I said, it's only secure if you just use it once. But you have...

Re: "Voting Machines" discussion

Could you explain what a one-time pad is ? But even without knowing, i'm with chustar. Sending votes through the internet would be like sending $100.000 cash money in an sealed envelope, hoping it will not be intercepted. Its 100% sure that someone WILL finally get through the security and mess aro...

Re: "Voting Machines" discussion

Voting should be the poster child for STUFF YOU DON'T SEND THROUGH THE INTERNET!!! I can't think of any other viable way to do this easily, but sending it through the internet is low on my list. If you're talking about a situation where voting machines need to report back to headquarters in a secur...

...Back on topic, I wish I could file bug reports in creation. Either that, or we get to hack at the source. And of course the universe is interpreted, so no restarting necessary. This also explains why it took so long for stuff to happen. Well, we already know that the universe is written in Perl,...

To answer the rhetorical question: because there is absolutely nothing about chess which is intuitive. The only way to be good at chess is to play it a lot and study a lot. If you have an analytical mind you might improve more quickly, but that's not going to give you any natural talent at the game....

Decoding scheme for IP over Demographics

Give an decoding scheme for IP packets embedded in the death rate such that no matter what information Hat wants to transmit, he can always do so by killing more people rather than saving them. Assume the population is infinite. Formally, let N be the set of natural numbers. Let x represent the data...

The King's Advisors

As a test to see if his advisors are worth their pay, the king devises the following test. Each of his advisors is to be sequestered incommunicado in a separate room. One by one, in random order, they are to be summoned to the throne room and then sent back to their chambers. Upon arriving in the th...
