Re: 1250: "Old Accounts"

I try to keep up, although there's a few accounts that have gone derelict. And there's some I'll ignore for months and then come back later. I squarely blame the site owners for that. What else can I do but leave countless quasi-zombie accounts behind me when every. single. bloody. site. insists th...

Re: 1190: "Time"

I had this open in a tab all day at work and then checked it at home as often as I could. It's past midnight now on the east coast of the U.S. I've read every post in this thread and all of the speculation about the possible meaning or message of this comic. And while I will certainly open the comic...

Re: 1170: "Bridge"

I remember a 4th grade teacher who intentionally got something wrong in class. She berated us for several minutes for not standing up to her and correcting when she was wrong. A few weeks later she (unintentionally) got something wrong and the guy who stood up to her got detention. Not for the init...

Re: 1141:"Two Years"

I'm so sorry for being a Debbie Downer, but I feel like I need to express how awkward this comic made me feel. I'm happy for Mr. Monroe and his beau, and this wasn't a bad comic, but I just can't laugh at it. The jokes were there and I know that they weren't all that bad, but something feels a litt...

Ok, I'll try. We all know the word "grammar" from English class. It is a set of rules that tell us how we build sentences....

Thanks. That was a really good explanation. And now I get the joke. :)

I just wanted to say that "sheeple" is one of my least favorite words ever.

I'm sure you're all feeling much better now that you know that.

My wife and I jokingly said that we were going to name our daughter Aeryn Sun. Though, truth be told, we weren't entirely joking. We ended up going with a "regular" name, but part of me still wonders...

When I was a kid, I thought Aquaman was great. 'Course, I always wanted to live underwater so that probably had something to do with it.

Re: 0946: “Family Decals”

Based on personal experience, I can also point out that having a child (or three) is not as much of a cash sink until they hit about 15 or 16, and the more important reality is that the DINKs have more time . Wait, you mean it gets worse? They're gonna cost me more? Though I agree with you ...

Re: 0881: "Probability"

xkcd isn't just entertainment to some people, it's art, and art isn't always happy-go-lucky laa-di-fucking-daa bullshit. I would rather see something beautiful and expressive when the author feels the need. It's just as beautiful whether it's happy or sad. You're not the only one who feels this way.

He's only alloted 15 min for waking up? I usually have to give myself half an hour - about three "snooze" alarms. I'm the same way. Drives my wife nuts. She just can't understand why I don't just set the alarm for the time I eventually do get up. I've set the alarm for later, but it doesn...

Re: 0836: "Sickness"

Those who describe the universe as beyond understanding, are the most likely to act like they do understand it and everyone else has it wrong. Excellent point. :) I've also found that those with, shall we say, less mainstream beliefs tend to be far more tolerant of those with "normal" bel...

But science provides tools . ...has bought us some pretty damn powerful slings and arrows of our own. I've been reading XKCD for a long time, but I registered just now to say how fantastic this is. It's what I love most about science -- and what drives me nuts about all these "alternative"...
