Re: Becoming Less Cynical/Negative

Initially, I would be upset when things turned out exactly as I expected them. If you're a cynic, and a perfectionist, it gets bleedin' depressing. After a while, it just became tiresome. Plus, I went through some things in my life that really revealed how bad it could get, and how bad it had gotten...

Re: "Journal 2" Discussion

For the record, I think our classhole will be doubly bitter now that he has met his soulmate, and she had no compunction in breaking him and leaving him behind.

I'd say I pity him, but he did it to himself.

Re: Journal Discussion

petsfed, you are awesome :) I don't understand why people think this is sad. I think it's a really great way to make fun of the people who don't have the guts to just talk to someone. :) You know what, if I ever see someone doing this, I am going to just walk up to them and punch them in the stomac...

Re: Journal Discussion

I did something similar once. I was reading The Stranger, by Camus, when this girl sat down in front of me. She kept turning away as if she was looking for somebody until I finally spoke up. "Waiting for someone?" I said. She looked at me with tear soaked eyes "Yeah". I paused fo...

Re: "Highway Engineer Pranks" Discussion

I'm told that representatives for the Federal Highway Administration working with the Oregon Bridge Delivery Partners looked favorably on these designs. As such, I deny any and all responsibility for their appearance within Oregon, or elsewhere in the United States. /just for the record //although I...

Re: Discussion about Your Mom

At this point, I think "your mom" and "that's what she said" as jokes have actually evolved into meta-jokes, where the humor is derived less from where either phrase could make an otherwise humorless situation funny, but rather as kind of an absurdist suffix that results in confu...

If only I'd thought of this years ago when my roommates and I were simultaneously in relationships (a rare occurrence by all accounts). The acoustical battles would rapidly become epic in scope. Although I'd have to convince my then-girlfriend to just ignore the gigantic ellipsoid dish situated at a...

I'm a terrible slacker, and have difficulty reading instructions. I am petsfed, I am from Wyoming, and I split my time between studying for a BS (and presumably grad school, eventually) in Astrophysics, doing research re: astrophysics, rock climbing, and working a night job stocking shelves. Quite i...

Re: xkcd dating service

The problem is half of your target audience all simultaneously clicked your profile wondering where you lived. The other half, jaded geeks that they are, assumed you were on the coast opposite theirs, and didn't bother clicking. /I know I clicked I just checked the "location" field under ...

Re: xkcd dating service

i'm gonna pretend this forum is the xkcd personal section. here's my ad: 23 year old artist/architect girl seeking low key relationship w/ smart geeky guy who enjoys physics, religion, hiking, folk punk, and sci-fi B movies in which backpaking hippies have to take off their pants to travel to the f...

I like this comic because it moves the whole meme about nerds being socially detached onto the other foot. The happy conclusion is reached not by Guy shaking off his nerdiness but by Girl embracing it. (Says single guy who automatically makes equations from the time on digital clocks) Wish fulfillm...
