Re: Things to Buy for College

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this or not: If you're using a community washing machine (which you most likely will) bring along laundry detergent with bleach or bleach alternative to kill any nasty bacteria which can reside in those washing machines. You never know who might have jock itch and has ...

I say I'm studying Chemical Engineering and they're like "OOHHMG WOW you must be soooo fricken smart!!1" Kind of annoying sometimes, but it's pretty much to be expected from people in my hometown. It seems to be an accomplishment to even make it to college if you come from my hometown. I m...

Re: Basic C++ problem

Ok, so. I'm trying to ignore the header line. I'm trying to ignore whitespace before the integers. *I guess I could ignore what's left on the line after the second integer, I'll try that. So it's all covered right? Should I be ignoring something else or am I just doing it wrong? EDIT: I see it, haha...

Basic C++ problem

Hey guys, I'm new to coding and I have a question about something funny going on. Basically, when I am trying to read input data (text from a .DAT file) it's not picking up anything from it. The input file contains a header line and under it two columns of integers like so: [whitespace]integer1[whit...

Re: Static Equilibrium Question : F.B.D. help

Yea, I got the answer right a few days ago. Basically I just had to treat the boy and the beam separately and see which forces on each cancel whenever you combine the boy's FBD and the Beam's FBD. Then it was a matter of figuring out which way the tension went at the end of the beam at the pulley (t...

Re: Static Equilibrium Question : F.B.D. help

The pully at the end of the lever translates the rope force to a vertical force. It must do so by applying the difference to the lever. But how do I figure this out when given no angle to work with? Edit: Nevermind, I guess whatever it is would cancel with the friction force mentioned earlier, but ...

Re: Static Equilibrium Question : F.B.D. help

To douglasm: No angle was given in the problem! That's what was throwing me off. What is given is the mass of the boy, the mass of the beam, and the force of tension in the rope. And of course, the necessary distances. I was thinking in order to figure out the x-component you would definitely need t...

Static Equilibrium Question : F.B.D. help

I have a question about the Free Body diagram for this problem. The specific part is that of the pulley. I believe I have everything correct in the diagram, but somehow the answer I'm getting for the amount of Force supported at the pin joint at O is wrong. Note that I left out the X-component of th...

Anyway, I would buy the supercenter and just live in it for like a month with a bunch of friends doing random crazy shit.
