Re: 2026: Heat Index

Wait. The Heat Index can be lower than the dry-bulb temperature according to the NOAA.gov website . (The “It’s a dry heat” phenomenon.) I never actually looked up how it's calculated. But I always assumed it was based on (1) the rate of heat flow from your body to the air due to temperature differe...

Re: 0969: "Delta-P"

Calculating this out, Earth time is about 5.433 X 10^-8 times Narnia time. So factoring this into the equation the actual flow rate is 0.0217 L/sec. This would be the equivalent of a bad leak in our garden. So no doubt the evil white witch will be inconvenienced by this. Now here is a more interest...

Re: 0897: "Elevator Inspection"

Ha ha. We just went through this with the elevator in our building. (The new building manager got the inspector's report, saw "Pass" under "Elevator" and figured everything was good and filed it away. The "Pass" meant "passenger", as in passenger elevator, not...

Re: 0850: "World According To Americans"

If you expect someone from the U.S. to know where, say, Finland is, I think he's pretty justified in expecting you to know where Tennessee is, considering it has a larger population and GDP than Finland. People expect you to know where Finland is because of culture and history, not because of how m...

Re: 0850: "World According To Americans"

Finally, I turned around and asked her a fateful question: "Name as many states as you can." I missed fewer European nations than she got states. You see, it's kinda ethno-centric to consider being able to name US states as important as being able to name countries. This. I mean, seriousl...

Re: 0850: "World According To Americans"

I spent a year in Canada and got to hear regularly from classmates who felt it was their duty to belittle my homeland and its people. If I had a Loonie for every time I head 'Oh, you're from the United States? Don't you just love it so much better, here?" I was so very happy when they challeng...
