Re: Google releases App Engine

I suspect that if Python 3 is supported one day, it'll just be a separate value of the runtime parameter in the application's deployment configuration, eg. 'runtime: python3' instead of 'runtime: python'. The App Engine team have explicitely said that they want to support more than one runtime, and ...

Re: Undefined Reference to vtable linkage erro NEED HELP BIGTIME

There are a few stylistic options when writing template classes. The simplest is to just stuff the implementation in the .h, which I find acceptable because you're actually defining a pattern that will be specialized when needed, not "actual code". The second used approach is to place the ...

Re: Undefined Reference to vtable linkage erro NEED HELP BIGTIME

Source code, or at least the exact error from the compiler, would be appreciated. Figuring out problems from a retelling of what the compiler said and no source to go to isn't easy. One usual beginner's pitfall when programming with templates: make sure the full implementation of the template is ava...

Re: Your First Concert

Theatre of Tragedy, alongside Pain and Tiamat. Not the very best concert I've been to (then again, I've been to three festivals since), but it let me discover Pain. And for that, it was awesome.

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

May I make a recommendation? t->stack_current = t->stack_base + (stack_size - sizeof(*s)) / sizeof(*t->stack_base); That way: 1) It's clearer what it's doing. (I had to think about why you were dividing by 4 for a second. And while we're on it, I also don't think people should use >> for division b...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

I'm writing a scheduler for my preemptively multitasked Lego Mindstorms operating system. After a little bit of nasty debugging, the core assembler routine that does the saving and restoring of task state started working quite nicely. Then I start spawning tasks, to demonstrate the awesomeness of pr...

meh, same thing. My girlfriend and I intend to live in Vancouver after graduation until we both learn french well enough, and then move to geneva or zurich. If you are learning French, I'd recommend moving to Geneva. Switzerland may count French among its official languages, things are still region...

Strange. I installed slime (through apt-get on ubuntu and macports on OS X), and both have the commandset described in Practical Common Lisp.

I recommend you check out Practical Common Lisp, which provides a great intro to Lisp if you're learning the language, and also features a quick tour of Slime in chapter 2.

Confession: I am really, really, really, irrationally, blindly and basely terrified of tax forms. I think it stems from watching Brazil way too many times and thinking that I will miss clause 483B on form S39Z that says I need to mail a used sock wrapped in a paper towel to hong kong along with a ph...

Confession: The description of the structure and error-correcting intricacy of DNA in Dawkins' The Blind Watchmaker brought tears to my eyes. Same with the "science casts off our burqas of perception of the cosmos" conclusion of The God Delusion.

If you need threads in C++, I strongly recommend getting a recent compiler (recent versions of Gcc, or MSVC 7.1+), and using boost::threads. The discussions on the concurrency mechanisms in C++0x (the latest revision of the standard, due in 09) seem to indicate that Boost Threads will be used as a b...

Greetings programs! I'm a 21yo male, currently living somewhere in Switzerland for a short while. I'm a software engineering student. I grew up in France but have a British family, and fail at being stereotypically French and at being stereotypically British, so I'm now something in between the two ...
