Okay, I haven't looked at this thread for the past few hundred replies, so where's the most recent GIF of the whole comic that I can see?

### Re: Correlation-based inferences with discrete random variab

I think to use a binary variable like this, you would need a logit/probit model, although I don't know too much about them. R squared doesn't have the same exact meaning, and my econometrics textbook tells me the three measures you would use are: Percent Correctly Predicted; Log-Likelihood Value; an...

### Re: How did you calculate pi?

I programmed a short script in R to find a confidence interval for it, and I usually get the mean value of my simulated data to be within .5% of the actual value.
The way it worked was to find the proportion of points that falls within a quarter circle, then I had it multiply by 4 to get pi.

### Homework: Discrete Dynamical System

Hi, I'm currently finishing up a linear algebra class, and I am working on the last homework. I cannot figure out how to solve a problem, so I hope someone here is willing to help me. I have the system x(t + 1) = Ax(t), where x(t) =[ c(t) r(t) ] transpose and A equals (sorry I don't know how to form...

And so were you able to solve it?

If I remember correctly, I made some simple mistakes that led me to the wrong answer.

My chemistry teacher says a lot of ridiculous things. ### Re: I hate math notation!

One thing I would change if I had the power would be to do away with the symbol π, and use a single symbol to represent the ratio between a circle's circumference and its radius . (The number we call 2π.) For this post let me use ❖. That way when you are learning trigonometry in radians, a quarter ...

By not voting you have no voice. I really don't get this logic. There is absolutely nothing that you can mean by "voice" that would make this statement sensical. He obviously is not refrained for speaking. He obviously is capable of voicing his opinions. He obviously has some political in...

### Re: My first election? Fuck it, man.

I'm sure that is indeed the case. But it is preferable to not voting at all. A lack of a vote will be counted as "I don't care", whereas a spoilt vote counts as "screw you guys, I refuse to support any of you bastards". And I think that's the sentiment the OP intends to express....

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with a large number of the people in this thread. I think it is the wrong thing to vote for the "least bad candidate". It's like you are telling me to choose the lesser of two evils, when instead I can say fuck all of the evil and not support an...

If the plan of taking Calc2 and 3 at your school this year implies that you have taken Calc 1. If you will be doing 2 and 3 I don't see the point of taking BC online, it should be the same material except it won't include calc 3. Could you explain what you mean if that is not the case?

You are pledging allegiance to two things Exactly. If you don't want to pledge allegiance to both, then you shouldn't say it. Not following along with everyone in saying the pledge does not mean you necessarily don't support both. It also is not that big of a deal. I don't support it, so I just don...
