Re: How essential has religion been in holding society toget

I think it's rather clear (although some people are certainly going to argue against it) that medieval societies were held together by religion. It's what made the peasants accept their fate, the only kind of law that applied to kings, and the Church had a lot power in general. This is a massive mi...

Re: 6 Planets A Long Time Ago

Probably just wanted to make sure we conceded that try so it was nice and exciting at the end. Really proud of England, once again- very gutsy display. I do wish we'd drop Botha and stop subbing on Stevens, both of them make me nervous. Refereeing was appalling, that yellow was pretty much absurd. P...

Re: 6 Nations 2012

Any thoughts on Cian Healey "just happening" to walk into Vincent Clerc about thirty minutes in, Dream? Thought Ireland's discipline was questionable as well; 12 penalties to 4. From the match stats, I'd say it was a lot more even than you're billing it.

Re: 6 Nations 2012

If only Sam Warburton had been born twenty miles east. Really proud of that English display, actually. Not sure why we didn't go back for that penalty at the end though. Fair play to Wales, they were the better team for more than half the match (discipline when Priestland was binned was incredibly i...

Re: 6 Nations 2012

Definitely a try? Highly questionable, from one side contact looked there and pressure was a doubt, from the other side it didn't look like he made contact at all. Also, there was a period of about five minutes on the sixty minute mark when England looked like they'd been swapped with France, really...

Most of that has been pushed by large American-Evangelical super-church type buggers. They are almost universally protestant, hence the imbalance.

Right. I do not care for History. I spent a lot of time feeling stupid, because, I did not know the names and dates of big deal people and events. Pfft. History was taught as what this famous person did and then what that famous person did. How grandly important they all were. Pfft. Mostly rumor. T...

Ah, so all of history is things like arguing over whether De Gaulle was a mere figurehead or an actual combatant? Please, do tell me about what my degree does and doesn't encompass. There are facts, there are things are likely, and there are opinions, and there are elements of history to all of them.

Re: Physicists - Not all that

I always saw "hard" science as those with a definite answer, whereas "soft science" could have more or less BS answers as long as you were good at explaining them. So Physics is "hard", except for String Theory, while History is "soft", except for Archeology....

DoW 2 is vastly superior, IMO. Although I think that campaign can be quite easily broken by having three squads with assault cannons and a melee bloke with taunt and invincibility. Last Stand is a lot of fun too.
