They're not, it's just that the earth is rotating beneath them, like how the moon rises in the east even though it actually orbits in an eastward direction.

Why is this? Is it because we'd be bringing the moon's angular momentum to the surface of the Earth? That's actually kinda cool.

Help me figure out what broke

Okay, so over the past week or two my computer had been spontaneously powering off. I was suspecting it might be an overheating issue, since it had been rather warm on those days, and had usually happened while playing a game. Then, a few days ago, my computer locked up hard - no response with mouse...

http://nmccoy.net/games/game11_waterfall_bomb_icon.png This week, as with many weeks, I started with a mechanic I wanted to explore - in this case, surviving by finding cover. The obvious scenario that lends itself to this mechanic is, of course, rocks and bombs tumbling down a waterfall. And natur...

Squidfold is about something (and possibly about nothing).
Squidfold (probably) contains neither squids nor folds.
Squidfold cannot eat you (if you don't look at it).

Squidfold is playable(?) here.

Writing a game a week in Processing

Got sick of having game ideas and never working on them, so I took a leaf out of Jonathan Coulton's book and committed myself to making something every week. I've just posted my fourth game so far. Let me know what you think.

Been playing this for about an hour now, and I have to say - the "ending" is brilliant. After about 40 minutes or so, the enemy density becomes such that you can just cruise around in the fractal nebula, watching all the enemies self-destruct (through friendly fire, presumably?) in...

The physics teachers at a school I went to have a pair of tungsten bricks - each a bit larger than your standard red brick, each weighing about 50 pounds.

They use them as epic paperweights. I'm sure they're quite valuable, but how would you go about stealing one?
