I just attended a lecture about Darwin where the whole of the science department rebelled against creationism. Through this I have learned one thing, philosophy professors are exceedingly verbose.

Re: Water in your ears ... best solution to get rid of it
Water in the ear will drain through the nasal cavity on its own, shaking your head like a maniac won't really help. Like other people said there's stuff for water in the ear and whatnot, but cold medicines help as well depending on where the water actually is.
Re: Pianists?
The second movement doesn't have triplets...I'm not sure what part you mean...? He's either mistaken the 3/4 time signature for triplets, or mistaken the whole movement for third and again mistaken the semi-quavers for triplets. I do not make mistakes. ~Anonymous Mod I'm confused though, becaus...
Re: Pianists?
I've played for somewhere in the vicinity of five years, I'm currently working on Chopin's Ballade no. 3 and Rachmaninoff's hugely overplayed Prelude op. 23 no. 5. Just finished Chopin's Nocturne op. 48 no. 1, Bach's Toccata in E Minor, and Ravel's Sonatine. Anyway, as people mentioned Muse's Butter...

Re: Getting Worse With Practice/Practice Habits
Aside from all the don't over practice advice and all that, one thing particularly helpful with Bach is when you're going through it slowly, play it overly staccato, especially since you said its getting clumsy, it'll make you much more accurate, and if your playing through it normally its very easy...

I would be walking to this. All the time. It would get a bit monotonous after a while, but then I'd tell them, hey, I'm a superhero, and it would be ok.
Re: Fugues
A decent fugue to start with would be the C Minor (BWV 961), the D Minor you picked is probably doable though, it is a bit of a leap from the invention you learned, as are most fugues.
My favourite is probably the one from Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in E Minor. Starts at 6:00

On another note, Shostakovich's symphonies and string quartets are brilliant. Not so much a fan of his piano works, although his Prelude and Fugue no. 15 is fun to play if nothing else.

Re: Romantic Composers (and others to a lesser extent)
I also am in love with Chopin. Playing his Nocturne in C Minor for recital, and being very frustrated at his fourth ballade's coda. Being a piano player does seem to cause one to favor Chopin though, at any rate, you said you don't like impressionist stuff, and I don't know if you've heard him, but ...

Many of these seem completely improbable in that time frame, for instance the mining of asteroids or other celestial bodies; likewise the advancements in medicine listed don't seem likely if for nothing more than time restraints. Even if we managed a way to achieve both of these there would be anoth...

1. As said many times, the Bible, as a book with such a massive following cannot be left out. 2. The Divine Comedy, as is only fitting following the Bible. 3. The Da Vinci Code to emphasize humanity's struggle with the idea of religion. 4. Good Omens, for comedic effect. 5. Finally, The Blind Watchm...

Pitchfork are like NME, they praise unknown bands and then shun them as soon as they become popular. (Of course barring any bands to come from Manchester.) I mean Pitchfork wouldn't be bad if they weren't constantly comparing everything to Radiohead or the Beatles.

I grew up going to a Russian Orthodox church, which was inherently bizarre for a child, but as long as I can remember having an opinion I always thought it was a bit of a joke. I don't know when I really determined my opinion on any deity, but I don't think I ever really believed in the whole thing.

It isn't dying, but composers now seem more focused on soundtracks for films instead of preludes and symphonies. There are still quite a few good composers though who do both, Philip Glass being one of my favourite.

I'd go hang out with Lewis Caroll for a bit, toss around ideas surrounding a supposed Red Queen and some girl. Then maybe stop by Coleridge's place for some tea and opium and discuss Mongol's. Form a band two months before the Beatles and play their entire catalogue before they would. Become an hono...

Any time I'm asked my favourite genre I always say Fantasy or Sci-Fi type fantasy, but of all the books I've read I've been far less disappointed with general fiction. Fantasy is fun to read, but its always the well written stories about normal stuff that affect me the most.
