Re: "Lego" Discussion

There seems to be some confusion regarding the intention on the tick on the back of the license. I think this is because there are different standards throughout the world. In the USA, drivers licenses have a box you can tick in order to mark yourself as an organ donor. In many other countries, the ...

I worked in a bar for two years and may have some advice for you. All of our bartenders were promoted from some other position inside the bar (either a waitress or a bar back). My only objection to reading a text book is usually the price, but i'll try to keep an eye out for it. thanks for the help. it sounds like exactly the sort of book i'm looking for. A brief introduction to logic and then a discussion of contemporary issues. perfect.

Re: Eithcs and Philosophy - A place to start?

Id rather read a modern book that covers topics over the ages. Something that can give me a good intro to the different schools of thought. Ideally, I would like to read a book to give me a foundation, and then branch out from there on my own.

Eithcs and Philosophy - A place to start?

I'm interested in learning about philosophy or, more specifically, ethics. I already have a bachelor's in math, so im used to thinking logically and axiomatically but i have no idea where i should start. Any suggestions? Maybe a beginner's guide of sorts?

Re: Condoms and HIV/AIDS in the developing world

Indeed, I stand corrected. 11% over the course of a year, as opposed to 11% of individual encounters is a more reasonable reading of the data. Still, The important thing to take away from this is that the condoms must be used correctly . Condoms will result in a net positive in the fight against HIV...

f one is infected with HIV and having intercourse with someone who isn't, condoms HAVE to work. But mostly due to human error, they don't. At least not all the time. (The quoted failure rate is 10% [ source ]) I think the failure rate may actually be much higher than you expect. According to the FD...

also, i dont think the materials would fail if dropped from a very high altitude in a vacuum. Sure it would be moving very very fast but there would be no outside friction from air resistance to cause stress on the materials.
