Re: 1798: "Box Plot"

One thing i found interesting about this comic is there maybe a subtle stab at box plots here as in some places these are refereed to as "dynamite plots" (by statisticians who dont like them). Though im not sure that would be particularly well known. Which actually (in my view) takes what ...

Re: 1756: "I'm With Her"

romance, sarcasm, math, and language Choosing the next President will have a substantial effect on all of those things, and will also affect science, rationality, wit, and kindness. Thats a very poor argument as im sure your well aware - the comic is none of those things, its an advert for a candid...

Re: 1756: "I'm With Her"

While I respect that its randalls comic and he's fine to do with it as he wishes, I (like many others apparently) am very disappointed that he did decided to go down the path he has. People come here for the things xkcd was, and its right there on the front page: A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math...

Re: 1719: "Superzoom"

I'm missing the joke. Read explain xkcd. Didn't help. Anyone? Anyone? I felt the same way, and none the other explanations are very gratifying... when i first read it i had assumed it was some form of parody of an Ad on tv or some hot topic i'd missed... But it seems like its perhaps just a poke at...

Re: 0917: "Hofstadter"

Sorry to dredge up a really old thread all.

Its very close to the 5 year mark since this comic was posted... for some reason my brain remembered it tonight and it made sense, which it didnt at the time and i have no idea what prompted the minor mental revelation.

Re: 1150: Instagram

Im actually a little disturbed by this comic. It comes across as randall defending instagram, and while i dont use instagram and i've only really read slashdot when it comes to the "controversy" side (of course, slashdot is always quite one-sided). However, to me the whole thing comes acro...

Spoiler alert, I shat bricks when I saw it, you might not want to spoil that experience for yourself :P http://dirk.svcover.nl/1337.png I don't get it. It has to do with the red line provided by d0rk, which corresponds to the level of an un-labeled line section underneath the "champagne bottle...

Re: 0902: "Darmok and Jalad"

I always hate picking holes in star trek plots, however that particular episode annoyed me (speech translator aside). It had nothing to do with the way their speech was created but the fact that somehow the enterprise computer knew the history of Darmok and Jalad. If this was the case then some one ...
