Re: 1079: "United Shapes"

Ok, so I'm sure you were all considering it already; but I editted the wikipedia article on Colorado. It needed to be done, let's see how long it lasts. not long... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado It's reverted back to the "sane" version, here's a permalink to the revisions: htt...

Re: 1059: "Bel-Air"

This is possibly the most absurd and convoluted reach just to make the semi-pun at the end of the Title text ("...Mr. Smith Goes to Washington") that I could possibly imagine. It's so obtuse that the entire comic qualifies as a shaggy dog story, and those 5 words the entire punchline. Oh, ...

Heh. GOOMHR, indeed. Obscure driver problems in outdated hardware is a guaranteed recipe for that effect. This kind of search is the closest I can come to the job Vernor Vinge described in Deepness in the Sky: "Programmer-Archaeologist." The feeling that the answer is out there someplace, ...

Spare a thought for those who have tried to edit sendmail configs. Aaaaugh! I was feelin' all smug and happy, taking great joy in actually enjoying hand-tailoring assorted X-related config files. And then you made me flash back to the worst config-editing episode of my life. Death is too good for w...

Get Out of My Infantry Combat Vehicle Design Studio, Randall!

Cuz you're not good at designing armored cars.

But the rest? I have to agree with the punchline: it takes some kind of neurochemical imbalance to convert figure-ground dichotomy to that particular scene.

I'm intrigued by these police radar guns that are inaccurate by over 5 days, tell me more. I'm pretty sure you're deliberately misinterpreting the statement, but I'll explain anyway. I meant that police radar guns frequently give an error of more than 2.0 knots when measuring the speed of objects--...

The proposed cuts were actually for new aircraft that are used to track hurricanes; Do you have a citation for that? The reports I've seen (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/01/storm-research-funding-idUSN1E78019L20110901) report a 42% cut in the overall hurricane hunter mission, with no disti...
