Re: 1173: Steriods

Oh bite me. Alcohol is toxic to the human body, yet we actually encourage people to drink. And people who don't drink are sometimes even ashamed and viewed upon as "boring" when it's revealed they don't drink. Smoking, while no longer encouraged, is not healthy either. And then there's.. ...

Re: 1173: Steriods

I was waiting for someone to bring up the documentary Bigger Stronger Faster*, which might be worth watching if you like that sort of thing. Ebert remarks that it is "pro-steroid", but is even more against the win-win mentality that drives people to use steroids. Certainly, it makes the c...

Re: So how hard is it to keep abs anyways?

If you want abs that are ripped and very visible even when not flexing, you're in for a lot of no-fun stuff. I kept it up for about 3 years and stopped then. Even a couple of days without iron-clad discipline (especially eating) can ruin it and you need a couple of days to go back. We're talking ~9...

Re: getting started with C

Same as ycc1988:
You should check the book of the authors of C. "Kerningan y Ritchie - The C programming language".
Also, if it's about IDE's Geany runs on Windows too. (install mingw to get gcc)

Re: Resources for learning the Math and Science behind compu

Thanks. I picked "Introduction to Algorithms" by Thomas Cormen as our exercises were based on this book. I finished that class and i'm just moving on.
But any other suggestion would be useful too.

I was checking out the MIT page that has some exams and lecture notes.

Re: A potentially super-offensive question about Hawking.

I couldn't find how it could be an offensive question. So you do think he is smart and accomplish a lot but when it comes down to practice you can't see his work there, making Einstein's work more important. Well my opinion is the same as EdgarJPublius. It's extremely important that people continue ...

Re: Can there be a resolution to the Falklands/Malvinas issu

I don't think anyone wants war. That said the UK prefers to defend them, by military means if required, than handing the islands over to Argentina. That is not an at all unreasonable position to take. Yes you could make a case that the islands don't need as strong a military as they have, but the l...

Re: Resources for learning the Math and Science behind compu

As this topic is about resources for learning CS, I can ask here. Im looking for a book about Data Structures and Algorithms, I know nothing about it (maybe a little bit right now) but is for a course of the same name. I just finished my first year studying CS; said this to clarify is not a hobby an...

may be off topic This is precisely why Wikipedia's "List of Common Misconceptions" will be responsible for spreading errant thought for generations to come. That article is amazing, i still cant understand how can they mention as a "myth" that hair that you shave growths thicker,...
