Re: What-if 0061: "Speed Bump"

In a lot of US neighborhoods these days, the association will give you a ticket if you park in your driveway What is "the association"? I presume you don't mean these people . :) It's not exactly an easy thing to Google... It might be this: Homeowner association But I could be mistaken; o...

Re: [SAFESPACE] LGBTIQQA Thread - Queer Support!

note: I'm not a lawyer, but like reading up on and trying to understand laws and bureaucracy in my region. This is what I could find. Anyway, just thought I'd drop this in here: Germany has passed a law allowing children to be registered as undetermined gender. Apparently anyone registered as such w...

Re: 1256: "Questions"

Why do people say "there are no stupid questions"? Because there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. Au contraire, there are in fact astonishingly many stupid questions. Starting with the simplest of them all, the auto-"why", fired back from the hip immediately after e...

Re: unhatched fishes and turtle excluding devices

I wonder if somebody has actually tried to make a "science backup", a durable compendium of all we have learned about the world, like the Rosetta project did with languages. I mean, preserving old languages is very nice, but if the 17,000 nuclear weapons we have ever start going off, or a...

Re: STAR! Trek into Darkness?

DS9 shows an elected Federation President and when a Starfleet Admiral (IIRC, there was no connection to Section 31 mentioned or implied) wanted to take his place and flood the streets with phaser-rifle-wielding Starfleet officers to "strengthen" Earth (to counter the threat of changeling ...

This low quality image from an outdated webcam cannot be enhanced further. Alleged sightings of intelligent life in the Sol system can not be confirmed by the techs at CSI: Tau Ceti.

Re: Galilean:x' with respect to S'? AND SPECIAL BONUS x' = x

FWIW, I don't think Steve is trolling, personally. He's done too much work, put up websites and YouTube videos and carried on this argument for more than a year. Much more than one year: his postings on the Wikipedia Talk page for Galilean Transformation date back to September 2009, someone already...

Or maybe he was already playing with footnotes before Time.

Re: 1199: "Silence"

I think this shows that he reads the forums. 4'33" was brought up on the forums for Time. That was the first I'd heard of it. Maybe he knew about it but I think the fact that it's fresh in his mind is interesting. Even if I though he is reading the forums, he's definitely not going through the...

The "Pressures" thread was legendary. Can anyone please post a link to this thread? Now I'm really curious :) Also, good grief, 16 pages of comments while I was sleeping, how am I gonna read them all at work?? :P It started as the comic thread: 1067: "Pressures" and after months...

Re: 1184: "Circumference Formula"

My second thought lead me to check the Wikipedia Circle article, to see if someone was actually lame enough to footnote the formula. Wait I still don't see any xkcd vandalism. Perhaps it is a bit difficult to add footnote to an equation? It may have something to do with the article being already pr...

Re: 0912: "Manual Override"

I actually really appreciate having what others might think of as over-long manpages. It's so convenient to have everything searchable within the same pager; if I have an HTML manual lumped into separate pages, a simple Ctrl-F isn't enough to find a specific keyword, if I'm not sure what section it...
