Re: Forum links log me out

I'm not able to log in to forums.xkcd.com. It says login successful, then on the next page I'm logged out again. I was having the same problem, but deleting the cookies (via the link at the bottom of the board index) didn't help. My name appeared under "online members" but I could not see...

It doesn't quite fall within the specified genres, but Hawk is Howling by Mogwai is about 1.3 hours and excellent.

Re: IB vs. AP

I am under the impression that you can take AP exams without having taken AP classes. You cannot do this with IB, as you need things like ToK, EE and CAS. The level of coursework is relatively equal, so if you are having real trouble deciding, you could always do both. Warning: You will spend the la...

Re: IB Diploma questions

I earned my IB diploma and proceeded to attend a liberal arts college. This means I cannot comment with any expertise on the necessity of such for admission to a school like MIT. However, I would like to add that in terms of preparing me for college, it could not have done a better job. Four years o...

"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" by Weezer makes me laugh.

"So Nice So Smart" which I believe is by Kimya Dawson is clever.

I second TMBG.

This Will Destroy You has been mentioned a couple of times, but not their self-titled album which I think is also worth a listen.

Re: Perfect Moments In Music

With a band as well-respected and popular as Radiohead it's hard for later groups not to feel their influence. It should also be said that while Radiohead and Muse are certainly not dissimilar, I think Muse has plenty that sets them apart. Personally, I am a fan of both, though I have yet to see Mus...

Re: Perfect Moments In Music

I love listening to this song because there are several "perfect moments" and it just builds continuously until it finally comes back down to the drums that drew me in initially. There There -- Radiohead 2:54 Thom Yorke's keening. 3:16 Everything gets taken up a notch, it holds me in suspe...

Re: Favorite Musical Character

Eleanor Rigby -- The Beatles
Short Skirt, Long Jacket -- Cake
Sukie in the Graveyard -- Belle and Sebastian

Although this is not one of my very favorites, I feel I cannot go without mentioning The Greatest Man That Ever Lived -- Weezer.

Re: the most depressing song: help me find it!

"The Hill" sung by Marketa Irglova It's part of the soundtrack for the movie "Once", about Irglova and fellow musician Glen Hansard. Also, "Unintended" by Muse makes me a little teary, though I don't think the lyrics are not really sad in that way. The same goes for &qu...

Roxanne: Persian for 'Dawn'; another spelling of the French form of 'Roxana'; Roxana was a wife of Alexander the Great. My parents vastly underestimated the staying power of Sting's popularity. Few are able to suppress the urge to burst into song. I used to hate it, but the only way to survive is to...

My "pet": Picture! He's a five year old, 17hd* thoroughbred, and a total sweetheart (which is good, because he probably would have killed me by now otherwise). And yes, that's me riding him (this was for a saddle fitting, if I recall correctly). * a hand equals 4 inches, so he's about 5 1...

Like some others in here, the bit of skin attaching my tongue to the bottom of my mouth is longer than normal; I can't stick my tongue out very far, and it hurts to try. This also rules out any nose-touching or folding. My uvula is split I am a self-diagnosed supertaster. Apparently all my problems ...

When fat meant you could afford food, it was good. Now that thin means you can afford a personal trainer, that's what's good. It's about the needs of humanity at the individual time. When the majority could not afford food, we naturally thought a chubby woman attractive simply because that showed h...

Hi. My name is Roxanne. I attend a liberal arts college somewhere in the midwestern United States where I am a closet nerd and I recently picked up a math minor, the obvious choice to complement to my equestrian studies program. I plan to browse, mostly, and try to understand the Mathematics forum a...
