Re: Alternative Slavery

There's a very large difference. Around the beginning of the twentieth century, many people did live in a form of wage slavery in the western world. People working menial jobs for the booming new industries of the era were paid very little and set up in company-owned shantytowns. There was still one...

Re: Alternative Slavery

Debt slavery is alive and well, much as you describe, in much of the world. The only difference is there usually isn't a time limit, making people slaves to their landlords and creditors for life in many cases. Even if you placed a time limit, this would most likely occur; at the end of the contract...

I have a big periodic table of elements, like you'd find in a high school science classroom. It's mid-1980s, and includes proposed names for elements up to 104 (including both American and Soviet proposals). Kind of fun. Uptight perceptions I trust you don't mean anything deeper by it, but I take umbrage with the use of the word "uptight" on this subject. It's gotten thrown around a lot when I've had similar discussions in the past. up·tight /ˈʌpˈtaɪt/ –adjective Slang. 1. tense, nervous, or jittery. 2. a...

Fuel prices in the US are heavily subsidized by the public infrastructure. The actual "cost" of a gallon of gas is closer to what they pay in Europe, which is about $9/gallon US. I say this as someone who loves his car... a lot. What planet are you living on? The US pays closer to market ...

I think it depends on your high school experience. If it's a trial by fire, then the people you bond with there will stay with you for life. If you cruise through it half-asleep like I did, then you won't form those bonds. High school is especially ripe for it because it's the time when much of your...

I'd think you'd eradicate far more diseases than you create.
