Re: Worst/Overrated books.

I did a quick search and I don't think anyone has mentioned "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson. This was/is much talked about but I found it very difficult to get through. I started the second in the series to see if that was any better and never got past the second chapter...

Re: 1027: "Pickup Artist"

I've seen it happen. Looked like a viable course of action. Hence I recommend it. Hence, accusations of male privilege. Or in this case, pure ignorance. Unless you did actually bother to read the stories that were shared in this thread where such actions led to some seriously bad consequences... in...

Re: Gay Rights vs Hysteria

There was a cracked article which talked about this. I summon ST to link it for me. The article talked about things we all do that make us wrong. One part was about how, essentially, we argue not to learn, but to be correct. Because being correct has many more benefits than learning truth. I really...

Re: I've decided to take up bow hunting

Speaking of tips, what kind of tips are on the arrows. If you're going to hunt, you'll need different tips than are generally used for target shooting, and I can't see them in the picture. Also, depending on what you want to hunt, you may need to adjust the draw weight (how hard it is to pull back),...

Re: Books you had to read for school that you could not stan

Only in Lit do we discuss our "personal feelings" about the material, despite our feelings being as irrelevant to a properly designed Lit class as they are to a proper math class. So we're supposed to be reading classic works of fiction, Literary Art, and not supposed to feel anything abo...

Re: Worst/Overrated books.

Haven't seen this posted yet, The Grapes of Wrath. I don't mind symbolism and usually won't let it ruin a story, but somewhere around the turtle passage I got disgusted. It's like, "I get it already, you don't need to keep beating me in the head with this metaphor!"

Re: 1001: "AAAAAA"

Why do they have to be the same weight? They're holding onto the sheets. Also, they are roughly the same distance from the center of the bed, but that's a minor point. Yes, but what is the friction between the sheets and the bed? Also, they might not be holding just onto the sheets. I assumed it wa...

Re: 1001: "AAAAAA"

I'm sorry, but I have to ask. Why do they have to be the same weight? If they are different weights then they would feel different forces for sure, but they could both be feeling different forces that are both within their respective abilities to overcome. This would lead to an imbalance on the str...

Re: The radical idea that women are people

Someone is wrong on the internet and I should leave it but I can't.. So this video was posted on facebook (it's ever so good, if you have a spare 8 minutes go watch it). The video is about the representation of both women and men in the media, more focused on the representation of women. I have an ...

Lots of nice pieces in this thread! I'll add Short Ride in a Fast Machine by John Adams. I find the woodblock really drives the piece and holds it together without ever being too much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi4A9bPDvTc

Not Syngenor, I think it was made after 2000. The spoken language was English, but I definitely got a Japanese vibe from it. I have not found it on any Wikipedia lists, probably not memorable enough for an entry.

Re: Things you remember watching but can't remember the name

This might be a tough one. It is a sci-fi movie set in the future in space. It is a very low budget movie (bad special effects, no name actors). The plot is a group that goes around finding junk to sell comes across some military base and finds a weapon. The name of the movie is the weapon they find...

Well, that's the dumbest I've felt in a while. On the other hand, I've shown it's easy to change the statements and still be able to get an answer, right?

I get a different answer.
