Re: RIAA to abandon policy of suing file-sharers

Terrific, this just means a lot more work for me. As for them attempting to monitor traffic, that isn't necessarily true. All they have to do is find the torrent for the file and they can see their peers' IP addresses. Take that IP and a time stamp, do a quick ARIN search, and email the offender's ...

Re: RIAA to abandon policy of suing file-sharers

They'll instead work with ISPs to cut off repeat offender's access to the intertubes. Sounds great and everything, but that line worries me. The article says they're going to notify alleged abusers and cut off service if they stop. How are they going to figure out who's been downloading illegal mat...

I wonder if he did the 'let it snow' thing on purpose, just to mess with his readers, there is precedent for this:

Re: Funniest/Most Annoying Code Comments

Today, I grabbed the latest pidgin sources from their monotone repository and found this in gtkmain.c: /* FUCKING GET ME A TOWEL! */ #ifdef _WIN32 /* suppress gcc "no previous prototype" warning */ int pidgin_main(HINSTANCE hint, int argc, char *argv[]); int pidgin_main(HINSTANCE hint, int...

Re: Java - Chatterbot/Synth/Recognition

I took a quick look at the page, have you tried looking at the sample bot provided? Looks like you need a context, splitters, substitutions and aiml file. <applet id="ChatterApplet" name="ChatterApplet" code="bitoflife.chatterbean.ChatterBean" archive="chatterbean....

Re: Iterating through every combination of an array

I was working on a dead-simple problem which basically gave you a target number and a list of smaller numbers, and asked to find the combination of the fewest numbers (if any) that add to the target number. So, if it gave a target of 10, and numbers 5,5, 2 and 3, the answer would be 2. (5+5 is fewe...

Re: silly rabbit! Cereal is for Dinner!

I like cheerios. Back in my early childhood I had corn flakes with large amounts of suger and milk, then I found out about suger frosted cornflakes, lived in a few years of sugar induced bliss and then switched to cheerios for a reason I cant quite remember. Been with them ever since. As much as I t...

Re: Arabic Literature

You might want to try Naguib Mahfouz. From wikipedia: Naguib Mahfouz (Arabic: نجيب محفوظ‎, Nagīb Maḥfūẓ) (December 11, 1911 – August 30, 2006) was an Egyptian novelist who won the 1988 Nobel Prize for Literature. He is regarded as one of the first contemporary writers of Arabic literature, along wit...

Re: Good Omens

I borrowed it from a friend and read it in more or less one sitting over the summer. Excellent book, but it didnt really feel like Gaiman had put much into it. If they didnt put his name on the cover, I would never have guessed he had a hand in it. as an aside, Awesome book. I actually have it overd...

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire

What kind of gets me about movie/tv adaptations is that I already know the story, so why would I want to see the same story again, simply told in a different format? I already know that: Jaime throws Bran off a tower, that Cersei and Jaime are doing it behind everyone's backs, that Ned bites it ...

Re: C Compiler Recommendation

Dev-C++ is also a really nice IDE  You're kidding, right? DevC++ is the worst IDE I've ever used! seconded. I found it to be very memory heavy and awkward to use. It implements minGW, so I'd rather stick with just minGW since you didnt want to be burdened with an IDE. Someone else already dr...
