Joan Manuel Serrat - Mediterraneo

I want to show you what is considered one of the most beautiful songs in Spanish: Mediterraneo, by Joan Manuel Serrat. A touching hymn to his homeland, written under Franco's dictatorial regime. I made a free translation to English, surely full of mistakes. Anyway, I hope you like it. http://www.you...

Re: The Faucet Question

And why is this wave significant just when the finger is really close to the faucet?

Re: The Faucet Question

Sudden change in the speed that the water is moving, perhaps? It happens on roads. The cars suddenly slow when they reach an accident. The braking travels backward down the road in a wave, well beyond the site of the accident. Mmm... I'm afraid I don't get your point :? Water molecules are the cars...

The Faucet Question

Ok, here's a video. It's about the Coanda Effect, but that's not the point I want to talk about. Pay attention to what happens when the water is falling over the spoon. Focus on the stream just above the spoon, falling out of the faucet. Can you see the wave pattern on the surface of the stream ? Th...

Re: Supernova

Wow. It's hard to believe that wouldn't bring any consecuences in human behaviour. Suicides waves, and things like that. Or maybe the whole natural world would get crazy: hordes of confused bats tangling in women's hair in their desperate search for some night hunt, for example. Amazing.

Re: Curious thing about thread creation

It is curious, though I'm not sure if it's anything to do with Spanish vs American forums, rather than just xkcd vs elsewhere. I also considered that possibility, but I felt too lazy to do any research, so I decided it was a matter of geography. I guess it's because I'm not used to this system, but...

Re: Supernova

I expect stargazers will experience a sudden rise in popularity. I'm still hoping for Betelgeuse to blow up in my lifetime - it's expected to go any day now * , and, at under 1000 light years away, would be closer than any other supernova in human history, probably outshining the moon. * Within the...

Curious thing about thread creation

I started visiting this site a few weeks ago. As I already said in the welcome thread when I became a member, I'm from Spain, and this is the first foreign forum I've registered in. I was soon startled by the dynamics of the threads: I see you people prefer having infinitely long threads, each one c...

That's not a challenge at all. What about the opposite? What about trying to make them believe all that Santa crap until they are 30? Hiring magicians and all that stuff.

Yesterday I saw the strangest shooting star ever. It didn't just vanish, but kinda explode in an orange flash that lighted an area of the sky for a second. I was quite impressed.

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Hello guys. Let's be brief. I'm not an English speaker, and I've been trying to find some kind of forum in English I could fit in, so I can practice and learn. I've studied Physics, and I'm gonna start a master degree, then a PhD. I don't know why, but today I thought: "These nerd comics I read...
