Re: 1505: "Ontological Argument"

Ontological argument in a nutshell: God exists because I say so.

Sophisticated and resilient? No. That some philosophers have fun spending their time debating whether the Emperor has clothes or not doesn't make him any less naked.

Re: 1492: "Dress color"

The real question about that Salvation Army ad is whether it should say "one in six women are" or "one in six women is". Let's post the question on tumblr and see if it goes viral.

Re: 1494: “Insurance”

In the Mexico City airport, they DO check the stickers to make sure it is your luggage.

But keep in mind that we are talking about a city where everything that's not nailed down (and most things that are) gets stolen within 30 seconds...

Re: 1492: "Dress color"

For those comparing the dress with the Amazon pictures, have you considered that the dress might have been laundered too much and that the black dye may have washed off a bit? :-)

I still don't get that nonsense about black shirts being cooler than white, and I've studied quantum physics.

Re: 1285: "Third Way"

Haven't you ever worked with monospaced paragraphs manually justified by adding spaces between words? I believe the main reason why the web browsers are removing "extra" spaces is because of these. I think the real reason is that HTML is often indented like computer code for readability. ...

Re: 1285: "Third Way"

I look forward to comics about other spacing-related holy wars, such as whether pointers in C should be declared "char *s" or "char* s" (or "char * s" or "char*s"...).

Re: 1273: "Tall Infographics"

Regarding the lorem ipsum examples, it seems to me that Latin words tend to be longer than English words, so 1000 words of English test might be even smaller.

Isn't there some lorem-ipsum-like generator that uses English words? (I do remember seeing "random essay generators"...)

Randall, if you don't care about sports, embrace it! No need for a tweeter feed of fake sports opinions. (I heartily embrace my not-caring.)

Re: 1103: "Nine"

I never use the power settings, but I guess they are OK to have.

When I lived in Europe, the microwave had a knob for the time and I thought that was great.

Really, all you need is the knob for the time. You don't even need a power off button: you just turn the knob to zero, or even open the door.

Re: 1103: "Nine"

I always try to minimize the number of button pushes as well as the number of different buttons that I push. Given that, 99 seconds is one of the most common times I use (along with 66 s, 33 s, and 11 s). That said, my new microwave has a button that adds one minute and starts with a single click (n...

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

The calculation in the comic assumes that you already know the "recipe" used to build the password you want to brute force. Granted, the number of existing recipes probably won't make up for the difference, but I don't think every recipe is known. My highest security password is pretty lon...
