If the sky was violet, the poem would go "roses are red, violets are violet," which would be redundant instead of romantic, and eventually the entire species would go extinct because of its crappy love poetry. Roses are Red Violets are Violet I am your shoelace and you are my eyelet. yeah...

I haven't seen this point made yet, so..

I believe the whole east-west division has something to do with why the "Mediterranean" Ocean is the "middle of the earth".
