Re: 2011-12 Applications Poll

Oh dear, colleges... Early apps for most people due this coming weekend.. that submit button on CommonApp is just so very intimidating and final and what-if-there's-a-typo?? Haha anyhow, I'm applying as an undergrad at several schools, leaning toward the math and sciences, but NecklaceOfShadow menti...

Sorry, by "rarely allow unqualified teachers" I didn't mean unqualified by government standards. Should have said something more along the lines of "low-quality." Bad word choice on my part.

Another good place to find out what other people are thinking is collegeconfidential.com. :D

Take everything over there with a grain of salt though, caliber of student and level of college search understanding can vary quite a lot.

In Ohio, there was some news stories about how "unqualified" teachers are in private schools. That being said, unqualified meant not licensed to teach, probably because of the lack of a teaching degree. As anyone who goes to school in the US should know, qualified to teach by the state an...

I don't know the %'s and dont' claim to on motivation, but many private school teachers work there becase they dont' qualify to teach in public schools. Yeah, tou're right; turns out St. A's was not nearly as selective as my guidance couselour made it out to be; it's actually slightly less selective than UNH, the school I go to now. I've heard that also if you take the SAT Subject Test and ace that, you can tell colleges something along the lines of "Hey, look, this class confused the hell out of me, but I made the effort to figure it out and look how well I did."
