Re: Dutch election results

Yeah it looks like vvd+pvda is our only chance to get a not completely rightwing government. Though I doubt a completely right-wing government is even possible, such a coalition would probably require at least vvd+pvv plus some other party and I don't think any of the other parties will even conside...

Re: Dutch coalition falls. Noone knows why

I've been watching the Tweede Kamer's debate on 2013's budget for the past 1.5 hours. And it has been quite surprisingly not-boring. Sure some of the questions/interjections got quite repetitive and wilder's arguments/speech was quite predictable and booooring (pensions, the elderly and how evil eur...

Re: Ethics of creating intelligences

And the first thing about programming is that if you don't program the computer to do something, it doesn't get done. While this is most certainly true, it doesn't mean that the thing the programmer intended actually happens. Maybe the failure of robotic servants to be happy in slavery could come a...

Re: Doctor Whom

In the first episode, didn't someone scan the body and declare that the doctor was most definitely 100% dead? Surely such a scan would have revealed a tin body and a tiny Doctor still alive inside? My memory is fuzzy on this point. Was River not the one who did the scanning? An older river who ...

Re: How does the brain rewire itself?

Well first thing that springs to my mind is the process of Long-term potentiation . In short, if neuron A sends a potential to neuron B (through an existing axon) and neuron B is already busy firing a potential of it's own the connection between neuron A and B will be significantly strengthened (a s...
