Re: Religion

Tangential question, but - is any religion which doesn't attempt to proselytise worth bothering with? I mean, adherents of a religion must believe that the religion contains something which other religions don't. Otherwise there would be no point belonging to that particular religion. Well again, J...

Re: Religion

I pose the question: Is there any religion which does not attempt to convert people? It's not whether they claim to or not but their actions. Does any religion exist that actually is tolerant of other religions to the extent that they never attempted to force convert, either aggresively or passive ...

Re: Global Warming or Global Cooling?

The earth is, in fact, getting warmer, as this chart documents. So far, the average temperature for 2008 has been approximately 0.75 degrees lower than the peak of that graph, almost entirely erasing/resetting the global warming that has been happening over the last 140 years (as shown on your char...

Re: Global Warming or Global Cooling?

Your last article you linked to pretty nicely sums up why "climate change" is used in place of "global warming", which is that the Earth is a very complex system and adding an input (CO2) can have unintended consequences for the stability of the system, which could be warming OR...

Climate Change / Global Warming

I'm confused. A few years ago everyone was in a tizzy about global warming, but I'm finding more and more online articles suggesting that global cooling is starting to happen instead. I honestly do not know what to think, as I could not find any articles online stating Al Gore's opinion on the matte...

Frustrating "Permutations-Type" Balls-and-Containers Problem

Here's the problem: Given n balls and n containers, how many ordered combinations of balls in the containers are possible? In other words, find all the different ways you can put all the balls in the containers to make distinct combinations. For example, if you have 2 balls and 2 containers, you can...

That's correct, though the "KO'd" is grammatically the same person as the "KOee." The person who would get +1 would be the "KOer," i.e. the person who does the KOing.

[Insert standard arguments against Pascal's wager here, modified for this current argument.] So, as I've clearly shown, it's not good enough to assume free will. I think this one is interesting: rival (n.) 1577, from L. rivalis "a rival," originally, "one who uses the same stream" (or "one on the opposite side of the stream"), from rivus "brook" (see rivulet). The notion is of the competitiveness of neighbors. The verb...
