### Re: The awnser to life the universe and everything (42)

Anyway, I always kinda thought that Adams used 42 because that's roughly the number of minutes it'd take to travel between any two points on earth in an idealized gravity train. The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that o...

### Re: The awnser to life the universe and everything (42)

He said about 24. So with +- 10% tolerances 22 is a useable and entirely plausible number to work with. And considering Moores law is a rule of thumb 10% is actually a very strict tolerance. Seeing as the actual doubling could vary from less than a month to infinity.

### Re: The awnser to life the universe and everything (42)

I've never seen 22 months as the doubling time for Moore's law. You just chose that to make the answer come out to 42, didn't you? Yeah, isn't it usually listed as 18 months? Looks like the comic writer wanted it to be 42 years and went backwards from there. Its normally misquoted as 18 but Moore s...

### The Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything

The question would seem to be found in this comic http://virtualshacklesimagestest.appspot.com/serve/hitchhikers_guide.jpg Premise: Assuming Moores law to be that processing speed doubles appx. every 22 months knowing that it would take the fictional computer deep thought 7.5*10^6 years to calculate...

I'm not buying Carnildo's premise. Got any citations? The rovers have cameras and geologists driving them. The only thing a human has on the rovers is mobility, and perhaps a bit of an edge in manipulating samples. Even if it were true, the costs and risks make it a bargain. Not only that, a human ...

In my opinion yes it is. You defiantly don't need to be athletes level fitness, but everyone should work out more and eat better.
