I managed to sync it up properly in my head, although in Tom Lehrer's voice.

Re: 1027: Pickup Artist

Yay, we're venturing into PUA territory. My friend has been really getting into that game ever since reading, uh, The Game. This isn't Randall's first mention of it either. I suppose if you're not quite understanding this Subculture, you should either watch the 2-season reality show The Pick-up Arti...

As someone who had to crawl through census data and MSAs, this comic amuses me more than average.

Re: Osama bin Laden is Dead

I am a Muslim, and I'm so happy they finally nailed this creep. He's killed thousands of Americans, including many Muslims in my community who worked in lower Manhattan. 9/11 even destroyed the local mosque at the Towers. Bin Laden was never a Muslim leader, back in the 1990s Muslim leaders spoke ou...

Re: 0887: "Future Timeline"

I know Randall is pulling the summary from Wikipedia, but the Millenium Development Goals aren't for the complete eradication of poverty and pollution. The goal is to "halve the proportion of people living on less than $1 a day" and give everyone the opportunity for primary/elementary scho...

Personally I assumed he was going for a joke about Geocities, up until the end. I do love Zombocom.

Dang, Randall really lets his mind wander when he lets it. Best one I've seen in terms of geekiness in a while.

Re: "Password Reuse" Discussion (#792)

Shhh, Randall! Now millions of AOL accounts will be hacked.

This wasn't that big of a secret, I'm surprised it's not mentioned in TOSes for websites, e.g. "We will never be able to see your actual password (due to one-way hashing) or use it anywhere else"

Re: Sample (#780) discussion

Vanessa Carlton's song, A Thousand Miles, was a top-40 song for ages, and it has the sound of a police siren, as if a cop just turned it on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwkej79U3ek#t=3m20s (link to moment in song) Playing it while driving used to startle me, as my head would snap to the rear-view...

Re: ZOMG you've broken the Internet!

I've heard from some Pakistanis that the government blocked youtube because videos were being posted of elections being rigged and some improper things happening at polling places. It might account for the timing. The religious parties pretty much lost this election anyway, so I can't imagine many o...

Re: Elections in Pakistan

Anyone well versed enough in Pakistani politics to guess who I'm muttering on about?. You're probably talking about Muhammad Iftikhar Chaudhry, the chief justice who was placed under house arrest when Musharraf suspended the constitution. This is a good thing, the people can now rein in their gover...

Re: Polaroid, Say it ain't so!

Polaroid was and still is a great idea, instant developing film. A genius of its time.

Unfortunately, their film was so expensive no wonder everyone switched to digital cameras and photo printers. Why did polaroid still sell their film for about $1 a picture?

Re: LOL Sharia Law

If "Jihad" as war is not the "holy" variety, what were the wars the prophet was involved in referred to as? Good question, but it has a simple answer. They were referred to as "harb" which is the Arabic word for war. Those were self-defense wars anyway, such as the bat...

Re: She's a witch! Burn her!

It's a pretty awful story to hear. (I'm a Muslim, and this case disgusts me) The problem I think is that the Saudi government is a dictatorship. In the 1970's there was a coup attempt (kinda) and they caved in and decided to make it all ultra-religious to please the right-wing in their country. Sinc...
