Re: 1491: "Stories of the Past and Future"

Which "Gospels" is he talking about? Because I'm pretty sure the Biblical ones were set a little more than 24-80 years ago. 0.0

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

So simple text replacement introduces entropy, but not as much as using a string of words? xkcdt0Ehow2cree8st1=2pbuttwords xkcd taught (zero = aught) me (E = major 3rd of C = the name I call myself) how to (dur) create (you 8 jaffa! Cree!) strong (1=2 is wrong) passwords Why not use both and throw a...

Re: 0967: Prairie

So whenever a physicist says "observe", mentally replace it with "hit with shit". The waveforms collapses when hit with shit . When you hit a photon wave with shit it collapses into a particle. ...Troublingly, that makes it sound like they're throwing poo at the waves, monkeyway...

Re: 0972: "November"

Read the comic, got the joke, wondered if such a simple joke (and such a subtle move on BH's part) is really all that Randall intended. Read the alt-text and instantly recognized the concept as being a Peanuts gag involving Lucy even though I didn't know the specific comic. Came to the forums to lau...

Re: 0967: Prairie

The great part is that the joke even makes sense on a more basic level: if you look more closely, you see the individual grains, the particles instead of the waves. If we are going to replace 'observe' with 'hit with shit,' I suggest we try creative applications of the reverse, as well. E.g., "...

Re: 0967: Prairie

Simpler and more professional than "hit with shit" is "interact". Perhaps, but it certainly loses some pizazz! I always thought that Schroedinger's Cat was a jab at the silliness of the "conscious observer" idea. The moment the geiger counter is hit by the radioactive ...

Re: 0967: Prairie

What really bugs me is the use of the term "observe". You can't "observe" a photon because photons don't emit other photons. In order to observe a particle, you hit it with other particles and measure what happens after the collision. Just pointing your eyes towards light does no...

Clearly, the juggler spun them WAY too fast, and now the gyroscopic motion is counteracting any other forces, including gravity and momentum. The balls are going to greet him any second now.
