Re: Changing the American election system

Yay, now that I won't be necroing the thread, I can finally respond to JohnSmith1! Re the 16 US presidents with less than 50% of the vote: I am not sure about the other 13 (I am assuming Bush was included in the 16 count), but both Lincoln and Kennedy had the plurality of the popular vote, unlike B...

Re: Changing the American election system

The 1st time Bush was elected, actually less than 50% of all Americans wanted him. He just focused on the big states. 16 US presidents won with less than 50% of the popular vote, including Lincoln and Kennedy, but please don't let the facts stand in the way of your Bush bashing. I am not bashing Bu...

Re: 1061: "EST"

Is the year 1958 a reference to anything or is it just a random year?

Re: Why is sexism universal?

There are plenty of counter-examples to refute the 'universal' claim. the tuareg culture for example is matrilinear (property and social status is passed through the women) and certain kinds of important property (such as livestock) are owned exclusively by the women. That's still sexism. Sexism is...

Re: 1037(?): Umwelt

I take back what I said about the units. Seems like it is dynamically generated. Rythoka getting kilometers in Oklahoma must have been either a bug or some routing wackiness. I'm getting 6 km (4 miles) in Toronto, Canada, while sardia above me got 3 miles (5 km) in Illinois. I wonder whether this fi...

Re: 1037(?): Umwelt

It's time sensitive and location sensitive as well. Using the same IP, same OS, same browser I was able to get two comics an hour apart. I'd just like to point out that Oklahoma didn't really have a winter this year. Also, no one here knows what a kilometer is here. Kinda disappointed that Randall d...

Re: 1035: “Cadbury Eggs”

I'm unimpressed. There are 170 calories in a cadbury egg and 150 calories in a 12 oz can of Dr. pepper. Singling out soda as particularly unhealthy has been going on for a while, and doesn't really have much science behind it. Drinking a Dr. Pepper with dinner and not having dessert is roughly the ...
