Re: EVE Online

Man, it's too bad XKCD never got a corp or alliance together. I think the name "Better than Vista" is still free.

Re: 1078: "Knights"

Long story short, the Battle of Agincourt reaffirmed some old tactical realities and also added at least one new one. The first, is that an enemy on the high ground is a victor on the high ground. KoTH contests do not go well if the enemy is already the King. Secondly, Charging directly up said hill...

Re: 1065: "Shoes"

Unfortunately, Sliced Bread do not double as shoes. I tried standing for eight hours in my job once with just a loaf of sliced bread for shoes and it was torture. My heels were all scratched up.

How to make words problems wonderful

(don't include enough info) Here's one from my current Math 108 class (yes, retard math). A bakery delivery truck leaves the bakery at 5:00 AM each morning on it's 100-mile route ( ). One day the driver gets a late start and does not leave the bakery until 5:20 AM. To finish her route on tim...

Re: Sound Crackling after Windows Update

Never mind, I avoided the problem by plugging an ethernet cable directly into my extender, thus bypassing the wireless card altogether and by extension, resolving the issue.

Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

I've got a funeral at 9 tomorrow. A former football coach passed away on Tuesday.

And then I got a date. Talk about a weird day. I'm thinking about just wearing the slacks/nice shirt to the date.

Sound Crackling after Windows Update

So all way good and merry yesterday evening. School is out for the week, not major homework is due for a while, and I have a four day weekend. After enjoying a long session of CKII, I installed a windows update and went to bed. I woke up this morning, started my computer, and discovered that my audi...

Re: 1002: "Game AIs"

AGEOD games, for example. I've been playing Revolution under Siege a lot, and the one thing I noticed was varying levels of AI. The allied Siberian Whites can outmatch the Communist AI for a while, but not forever. The Green AI is just playing stupid, boiling down to "Where is a city that I can...

R.I.P. Beard B/D November 2011

He was a good beard. What a rotten way to die. What a shame.

(Couldn't take the itchiness so I got in the shower, shaved, put on some after-shave then some lotion. Hopefully, the itch subsides soon.)

Merged because it did not necessitate a new topic. -Lanicita

Re: Effective bodyweight exercises - no equipment

Back's is a toughy, but there are a few. The first is half-supermans, which target the lumbar. Essentially ,lift your right arm and your left leg at the same time while lying flat on your gut. If you're doing a million reps of these, try doing supermans: Hold up all appendages off the floor as if yo...

Re: What to do with old crap?

My mother recently donated to me an old Slimline HPP Desktop with a single core 3 GHz processor. Made a wonderful server computer once we replaced the HDD, and got rid of the enormous disk drive. This thing must've took up 40% of the space in that small case. Also great design: The video card fan wa...

Re: Mobo says Processor speed is .4 GHz

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet you a pack of cookies it's not related to your processor speed. If I were you, I'd try booting a live CD (such as one of these ). If your computer can do that, the hardware is probably fine. If not, perhaps the attempt will help you find the real issu...

Re: Mobo says Processor speed is .4 GHz

I've never heard of a problem like this. What are the exact words that the BIOS uses when it tells you the .4 GHz figure? If you could type out everything on that page of the bios settings (or even better, snap a photo), that would be helpful. Generally, there is a bus speed, and a CPU multiplier. ...

Mobo says Processor speed is .4 GHz

I recently bought a Intel BLKDG95SSCK LGA 775 mobo to replace a failing Asus PQM-E5 mobo. After successfully installing the mobo, I checked BIOS settings to change correct time and whatnot. When I notice that the Mobo registers my CPU as a 2.93 GHz Core 2 processor, but is using it at .4 GHz. I thin...

Re: A case of the Sound Card blues

Did you say this was a Dell board? Are you using drivers from the Dell website? I think some of these onboard devices can require highly specific drivers. Yes and yes. However, I wasn't having audio glitching with onboard before a few weeks ago, and I'm trying to determine the cause. My guess is Wi...

Re: A case of the Sound Card blues

I've uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials-Made no difference. Disabled sound enhancements - same story. I don't own a live Linux CD (I tried Ubuntu once, wasn't a big fan), so I can't be sure if it's the fault of the Windows 7 64 bit OEM I installed (which by the way, is a bitch to find driver...

Re: A case of the Sound Card blues

If you are installing a sound card, be sure to disable the onboard sound chip in the BIOS. If this does not clear up the problem, stop buying cheapo sound cards. Get a card from Creative Labs (SoundBlaster) and you will be all set. Yeah. I've installed a Soundblaster x-fi Xtreme audio card. There a...

A case of the Sound Card blues

So, my onboard sound died. Well, more accurately, began to glitch out, in time to music. So, I bought a cheap sound card - electronic buzz in games, sound cutting out every few seconds in games. I bought another cheap sound card - Same deal: Audio glitching even on the desktop, and no amount of sear...

Re: Think Before Naming Your Child

Dear prospective parents: Don't name your kid's the nickname of a name. For example, don't name your kid Sam. Name your kid Samuel, and then call him Sam. It doesn't matter how many grandparents have had a nickname as a name, it's improper, and you'd save your child lots of frustration. "So, is...

Re: ¡Hablamos español! (Spanish Practice)
