Re: Night Watch - Sergei Lukyanenko

I started Night Watch the other night on my cousin's husband's advice, and I must say it hooked me. Like stated above, the premise is great, and the setting fits it perfectly. Also, I *used* to be fluent in Russian, and I can see a lot of places where it's clear the translator stumbled, finding them...

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

I just remembered one of my Java teacher, who's a football coach and a sort of nerdy Mexican guy, right before christmas break,
"Have a good break, gentlemen. Don't do anything stupid, and always remember to keep it real with the homies."

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

My calculus teacher is a funny guy; he's Kurdish and has a really thick accent Mr. Ardalani: So, the power rule for differentiation is d/dx X n = nX n-1 ... today is the 22nd anniversary of my wedding and I have not gotten my wife anything yet. Kid in class: Someone's not getting laid tonight! A: I ...

Military schools

Who all here have ever been in a military high school or college, or is in one right now? How did/do you consider the whole thing?
I go to Marine Military Academy, which is in Texas. I don't like it, but I probably would hate public school just as much.

Re: (Post Your) Incredible Poems (Here!)

This is something I did for a poetry class I had, was probably the only one I wrote that I actually like. Manly due to the title... hehe Go Figure He takes a bucket of sand to a cold hearth and douses an invisible flame. He brings a sack full of stories to an empty home and reads to unsees children....

Re: Noteworthy Achievements in the Field of Sandwich-making

any given meat (meatloaf or chicken is best for this), spinach, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and tabasco on cheap bread. Actually, anything that can be a full meal without bread around it makes a good sandwich. If you're cheap, just the mashed potatoes, gravy and tabasco is great too. Now for crazy ...

Re: Favorite home experiments

Then I was trying to move this old ass-refrigerator out of my garage, and somehow managed to break the housing for the freon, and that started burning. How the heck did that happen? Honestly, I have no clue. I don't think I want to know. It's that or it had something to do with the rapid decompress...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Guess I should introduce myself, then... I'm Mike, although I go by my last name generally, I'll omit that. I am 17, a junior in high school, I go to a military school in south Texas, want to join the Navy as a surgeon, and spend my life in nerdiness. I'm a major music geek (I've been playing clarin...

Re: Favorite home experiments

Not exactly an experiment, but I've managed to accidentally give myself some of the experiences of a WWI vet by creating gasses. First time I mopped my room with bleach-based and then ammonia-based cleaners. Luckily, I had my windows open and my friend pointed out to me that said mixture creates chl...

Re: "Ouch" moments in school

Probably this year in Calculus BC, we had a test over Disc and Shell methods and a test over Arc Length and... something else which I can't remember, but anyway, Test 1: 65 Test 2: 50 This is at a school where 70 is passing, mind you. To defend myself, I'm the only junior in the class (7 seniors + m...
