Re: 1329: "Standing"

I believe I saw a school a few years ago that were trying out standing/sitting desks. For the sitting option along with having high chairs, there were foot rest bars under the desks which could swing. I imagine the only issue there would be keeping the bars well oiled to avoid squeaking.

Re: 1280: "Mystery News"

One solution I have used before while listening to music in another application is to mute only the browser entirely. This takes the extra work of opening the advanced sound controls for my computer but it does the job. Opening the controls also works for when I'm trying to find the source of the au...

Re: Words common to different languages with different meani

Random one I picked up:
Korean word for blood is 피 (pronounced like 'pee').
Maybe not one that would ever come up, but if so could cause some confusion.

Re: Translations needed: Talk to Me in X

Korean:

한국어로 말해주세요. [han-gook-eo-ro mal-hey-joo-sey-yo] - Tell me in Korean please.
or possibly
한국말로 하세요. [han-gook-mallo ha-sey-yo] - Please say it in Korean.

(hey/sey like the words hey/say)
주세요/joo-sey-yo means 'please give' in polite form.

Re: Words you choose to mispronounce

Sometimes I will still pronounce 'turkey' as 'churkey' since that is how I said it as a child. (Short tongue and had a lisp)

There is also a korean word I will slightly misprounce due to mimicing how it sounds with certain accents. 'bian' instead of 'mian'.

Re: 한국어 연습 (Korean Practice)

A question about forms of address. Some time ago I won a free subscription to a site that shows Korean drama. Although I know no Korean at all, inevitably, I tried to figure out what was being said. When watching 'My girlfriend is a gumiho' I was struck by the following. The main character calls hi...

26 and Little Mermaid is the first movie I remember seeing in the theater...

Just realizing teens today don't remember the boy band craze of BSB and NSYNC is what makes me feel old.

Re: Other Languages You've Studied

5 years of Spanish - I usually remember more than I think I do, but no where near fluent 2 semesters of French - I'm told I have good pronunciation at least with a Quebecois accent (which is my heritage and my family is from the US/Canadian border so no surprise there) I cannot hear it well though a...

Found this extra funny because my college actually did this by accident one year with a Computer Science course. As expected, no one could get into the class until they fixed it.

Times I'm thankful I had Wishbone to fill in for the classics I hadn't read on my own, this is one.

Perfect ending!

I admit to not catching the quark names on my own despite being an ex-physics major. But the LHC reference is still funny on its own.

It could destory us all!
