Orange Lights

Did anyone else notice that *two* of these mysteries mentioned that witnesses saw unusual orange lights during the nights near these events!?!?

They were the Lead Masks Case and the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

I'm thinking UFOs or NWO coverup.

Re: What-If 0108: "Expensive Shoebox"

I'm wondering if that is Randall's actual signature on that check?

I'm off to my bank now to find out.

Re: What-if 0082: "Hitting a Comet"

The gist of it is; for an object traveling faster than the speed of sound in a medium, in order to penetrate into the medium it will have to push the particles of the medium forward. This transfers momentum from the object into the medium. And, when the object have travelled a distance equal to it'...

Re: What-if 0082: "Hitting a Comet"

OK. I'll bite.

Why is it impossible to throw (launch) a baseball from NYC to San Fran?

Is it because it will burn up from reentry?

Curious,

Re: What-If 0071: "Stirring Tea"

When I was young, I saw this exact experiment in a "science" book...maybe World Book Encyclopedia from the 70s. As I set it up and turned on my mom's mixer, I realized that it had no way of working as described. Sigh. It also had an "ion" rocket prototype powered by a car battery...

Best 'The Land Before Time'

Re: Tommy Wiseau's 'The Land Before Time XX' is widely regarded as the worst in the series.

I'm guessing that 'The Land Before Time XXX' is the best...but probably not for kids.

Re: 1266: "Halting Problem"

In response to the alt text, I have two questions:

1) Is something *else* going on with Randall's personal life?
2) Has he possibly become spiritual?

Praying for NOT 1 AND 2,
Randy

Re: What-If 0063: "Google's Datacenters on Punch Cards"

But the alt text on the image BLEW MY MIND (for some reason): "Who milks the milkman?" What?!?!

It seems to me Google and the NSA have two options:

1) build their own pizza parlors *inside* the datacenters, or
2) make the pizza delivery people sign non-disclosures.

This is not a shocking result.

For me, perl is the *only* language that I cannot *read* another programmer's program!!

You are great at all of your comics, but especially with these more serious ones!

I love your work.

Re: Forecasted hurricane position is better For Sandy, I think this might *not* be the case. A few days ago all the different models had Sandy's path going from east into the Atlantic to the *current* expected path of the Atlantic seaboard. I've never noticed this before, so it strikes me as a count...

Re: 1075: "Warning"

The styling reminds me of Dr. Fun, who retired about six years ago.

Here's a good sampling from his archive: http://www.ibiblio.org/Dave/ar00517.htm.

Like XKCD, it's kinda techy and nerdy, with a bit of simply weird.

Re: 1059: "Bel-Air"

So, is there some "thing" I don't know about May 23rd and Will Smith? Or is it just the universe being really wierd again that both XKCD and Penny Arcade both made strips about him today? According to the all knowing Wikipedia, the last episode of Fresh Prince aired on May 20, 1996. Is th...

Re: 1015: "Kerning"

I'm sorry...I was tired so didn't explain much... I understand kerning. What I don't understand is why a poorly kerned "CITY OFFIC ES" is funny. Is it simply that there are examples of poor kerning *everywhere*?!? If so, then it's not Randall's best work. I would have expected an example w...

Wouldn't it be great to have an online version with links from the characters to their comics?

I might even pay $1 for that!

Anyone up for a challenge?

Contratulations Randall!!

I love your comics. This one made me laugh out loud. Good thing no one heard me. It would have been difficult explaining it.

I'm thinking you deserve 1000 comments in this thread!!

Peace to you and your wife,

Great comic. I "got it" immediately and LOL.

Humor can be cathartic. I pray that her recovery continues.

Is her humor as sick and depraved as yours? :-)

Peace,
Randy
