Re: Latin Translation Enthusiasts, Unite!

Perhaps it was simply the structure that piqued your attention?
It's an argumentative construction with which Roman orations were saturated. Cicero in particular.

Variations I loathe: Shew, smited, mooses, spake, equipt.

Dialectic variations are characterized by distinguishability. I see no reason to grind my +3 pedantic war-axe here.

Re: The Fourth Tense (Inspired by Lojban, meant for English)

In tense . I am a fan of this Lojban tense; however, we do have the words "before," "after," "did," and "already," which, while not as handy as agglutination, are not inconvenient enough to demand such an extreme alteration to any romantic tongue, let alone e...

Re: "Electric Skateboard (Double Comic)" Discussion

Funny how Hobbes is drawn as a tiger and not a stuffed animal, as he usually is when someone besides Calvin is around. That's because Randall knows the truth: That he is actually a tiger, contrary to what adults might think. Hmm, I just happen to own the The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book...

Re: Looks vs Personality

If "adventurism" stands for the evolutionary kick-in-the-pants one receives when in stressful situations among potential mates, how would you characterize the allure of a shy girl who prefers to read in nooks of bookstores and libraries. I agree that that last category is necessary, but th...

Re: Annoying words

I've never been a fan of the word "thus." Using it makes you sound like a pompous ass. A classmate of mine asked me to edit something of hers about a month ago, (she'd written a paper [english class] arguing that Satan was worthier of praise in Milton's Paradise Lost than God). She used &...

Re: Girl dies as parents pray for healing of treatable illness.

Until a child comes of age, I believe it is the parents' responsibility to do everything in their power to protect him or her if he or she seems in any danger regardless of their religious doctrine; faith cannot be allowed to trump evidence of mortal danger. Here, the parents clearly fucked up. In t...

I adore the fruit analogy. To ease compulsive desire for generalization, I believe that everything "meat" is the hook of a relationship, whereas everything "personality" is the meat of a relationship. Intelligence, however, I don't believe to be necessarily good for relationships...
