Re: 1970: "Name Dominoes"

Matching Garnet with Ruby and Safire seems a bit of a stretch. Under those rules Chevy Chase would be a match for Harrison Ford. Judges? Indeed! Rubies and sapphires are gem varieties of corundum (Al 2 O 3 ) while garnet ((Mg, Fe,Ca) 3 (Al,Fe) 2 (SiO 4 ) 3 ) is a completely different mineral. They ...

Re: 1903: "Bun Trend"

Also, a follow up to this comic: https://xkcd.com/1871/

I think Randall learned to draw buns and wants to exercise that skill. Given the topic, I would expect the number of bun comics to grow exponentially!

Re: 1874: "Geologic faults"

Taking bets on how many of these are real and how many are fake. Seems about half and half to me. LOL # 1, 2, 3, 4, & 8 are all real. The remainder are analogies used by geologists. If Randall had delved further into the snack food realm, the drawings would have included snickers, oreos, and so...

Some scallops have eyes. Way too creepy to eat such things.

Re: 1388: "Subduction License"

If there are neighbors in an apartment below, their experience is gneiss.

The roommate should ask him if he is going to clean up all of the schist.

They might be able to pay for some of the damage by selling the joints that will be created.

Re: 1388: "Subduction License"

This is one for those of us live with our heads in the sand. Explainer: Subduction zones are places where plates converge, and convergence typically results in "reverse" and "thrust" faults. Divergence of plates typically results in "normal" faults. Also, I need this on...

Re: 1198: "Geologist"

I suspect the rock he mounted on the wall was gneiss. (He probably wouldn't mount a piece of schist over his head, and we can't take it's identity for granite.)

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Afterwards, they dropped some acid and looked for joints. :)
