Re: Obama votes Yea for the Telecom Immunity Bill

Has anyone seen Obama's response?

I don't exactly think he's done great here, but at least he's talking about it.

VannA, you're totally right. I don't think I've been expressing myself all that clearly and I apologize for that. The reason why I draw a distinction between fighting and systematic abuse is because there are couples who are okay with physically fighting for real and I don't think that consensual fig...

Re: Manga-style art

I've never really been a fan of anime/ manga, it always seemed limiting to me, it's good for animation, but it always seemed to me that you can't get much individuality across for different characters with their faces and expressions, I guess that's why they always have ridiculous outfits, crazy ha...

Who else is disappointed that this is just advertising? But I do wonder why I'd be impressed if it WAS performance art. I'm always a little let down when something turns out to be advertising. I get excited, thinking that maybe it's going to be something really cool and maybe we'll start seeing imp...

Re: A twist on domestic violence

It doesn't appear to be trivializing the increased damage done to women/children. It's not that it's trivializing violence, it's that the article is withholding information (probably unintentionally). Saying that women and children get the worst injuries and die more often without naming any real n...

Re: A twist on domestic violence

Wouldn't that start the moment someone won a fight involving physical violence? It's kind of hard to know what you mean by winning a fight, but I'll try to give some examples. If a couple gets into an argument, it escalates, comes to blows, then settles back down and everyone is fine, then there's ...

Re: A twist on domestic violence

So how often do you have to hit your spouse before it upgrades to abuse? The line is pretty blurry, but my understanding is that battering starts when it turns from a fight into a form of control or domination. women and children indeed suffer the worst injuries and more often die as a result of th...

Here's something I found in my notes from my driver's ed class a few years ago. It Started With Salmon The place: a combination kitchen/dining room in a middle-class suburban house. There is a table big enough to seat three, but tnoight it is only set for one. A boy is sitting at the table. He is ab...

I once tried to eat a dollar bill. I managed to choke down half of it over the course of a few hours. Dollar bill is probably the second most disgusting taste in the world. Re: A twist on domestic violence

I just came across this and found it to be an interesting twist on an old issue. That article is taking some serious liberties with its data. Usually, when people say that men and women hit each other equally in domestic situations are referring to a study that Richard Gells did in 1985. You can re...

That said, for home defense nothing beats a 12-gauge. I have my doubts that the sound of the action will deter an intruder, but I'm a firm believer that number 00 buckshot will. I think the dump truck analogy is off. The confiders should be the dump trucks, and the confided the landfills. I'm usually the one doing the dumping, myself. Having a child will change your life, more than any other thing in the world can. If you think you know what it'll be like, you don't know.

Just remember, your child always, always, always, always, always comes first.

Best of luck to you.

I don't think many women are so malicious as to knowingly condemn someone, for whatever gain. Maybe I'm naive and stupid, but I just don't see it happening. No, I don't have a legal case on file. But if two people are drunk and they have sex, it is essentially impossible for the man to get a conviction against the woman, but it is possible for the woman to get a conviction against the man, in every state law I've ever heard of.
