Re: Literature and XKCD

A lot of oldschool science fiction (Asimov, Huxley, Ira Levin, et al) deals with amazingly large human themes. The science is almost never the focal point, it's the questions it poses about humanity that are important. Off topic, but I found Duncan Jones' recent film "Moon" really excellen...

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

#geohashing usually is quieter, and there are a couple of melbournites who might be online (me, minerva, or hanna.)

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

If it's after the 15/16th I can't come, but I wish you all a brilliant time!

[EDIT] and of course I didn't read the last few posts. I might go to eGames but I also realised that I'm protesting on the 15th (yeah, we're really getting into it this month.) So I'm like, out.

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

Flinders Street steps are always easy enough. Public transport a-plenty, easy for those unfamiliar with melbourne, and places to sit/clocks to tell time. How about there at 12:00 noon?

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

And I double post to ask y'all if anyone wants to meetup on Saturday in the CBD? A couple of people on IRC have said they're interested, it'd be awesome to catch some more for a casual gathering type thing.

Haha, yeah, is looking like meetup fail. I have a few friends at Manifest but I'm a non-mangaperson myself. Maybe next week? I tend to be free on saturdays.

Re: How far of a fall.

If you're just starting out, it'd be a good idea to go with a parkour/freerunning group. There's probably one in your city. My boy just broke HIS scaphoid (and yeah, Fossa, you should get that xray-ed, there's a chance of it being bad for circulation and stuff) because of a parkour fall. Don't go it...

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

Damnit, backups fail! I want to come to another lecture but it sounds like Christian's kind of intense. And yes, the raid on saturday will be preceded by an attempt at the largest time warp singalong http://www.showbiz.com.au/rockyhorrorshow/rocky_gwr.html and then is to proceed to exciting protesta...

Also, ToeofDoom, was that the big order at Swinburne? Because cool. Was in a Business of Games lecture the other week, spotted several xkcd tees.

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

Gosh, haven't even looked at the hashes for AGES! We should seriously arrange something.
Incidentally, any XKCD'ers who are also Anon? I imagine there must be a little more crossover than me and the boy, the internet being as small as it is. Shall be at the raid on Saturday!

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

I have mad skillzors at being cool but somewhat creepy. It's a hobby of mine. I think we definitely need to arrange something. Today (monday)'s location, for -38, 145 is in Carrum Downs. It would take a while to get there, but it's just a train then a bus. I don't know if anyone's committed enough t...

Bruce! Get motivated and organise a meetup!

Also, Gnat, so weird to run into you today! Usually I don't randomly meet strangers from the internet and recognise them, but between facebook and all the melbourne hash photos, yay for knowledge!

Re: "Know Your Vines" Discussion

Is anybody else reminded of the end of the movie Secretary where they go camping for their honeymoon and she's tied to a tree in a black wedding dress? [Maggie Gyllenhaal is in the dress, not the tree.] Help me out here. I can think of exactly two ways to identify a dress as a wedding dress. 1. Som...
