Re: Russia. Again. But now Poland

You should really update your view on Russia then. Here's a very summarized link . Russia is one of, if not the biggest energetical power. Some countries actually "depend" on their gas exports. As for Poland, well, sure, it's a NATO (which pretty much means US) supporter, like most of the ...

Re: Georgia

@ACU-LP It is unlcear, but it seems as though Georgia (at least according to Aussie news) chose this time due to the distractions of the Bejing Olympics (how they thought that would work...?) http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/3946/003karikaturkife7.th.jpg And it worked. :) At least if we're regardi...

Re: Russia. Again. But now Poland

You cannot over-simplify a problem for the sake of general agreement. :) For starters, since you've mentioned Gerogia, Russia did not start the conflict, Georgia did by attacking the region of South Ossetia. In the first hours of August 8, 2008, a mass incursion of Georgian troops and armour to a So...

I only watch them if there's something I'm interested in like the name of an actor or if the music's good.

Re: Math related research in computer science

If you'll look at optimising algorithms or working out utility functions for an intelligent agent you'll find you need understanding of various math concepts. In general though, I'd say that if you want to work with concepts you have to either teach them or work to improve them. Applying them can ge...

Re: What does one do at a concert?

Last concert I went to was an Iron Maiden gig. You jump, sing, scream, headbang, stare at the stage, slap yourself to check if you're dreaming. In general though, I'd recommend searching for some videos of live performances from the band you're about to see and checking out the atmosphere, specific ...

Re: Georgia

Russia would have no reason to occupy Georgia. Making pressures to maybe change the Georgian administration could be a goal though. And, myeah, NATO isn't going to do anything unless the USA will push. And they woun't since a war against Russia would be of a scale not seen since the second world war...

Re: Georgia

Georgia attacked South Ossetia and Russia is just making a statement now. That and maybe hoping for an oil price increase? (since their oil pipes run through Georgia) Also Georgia isn't a NATO member so their only hope for help comes in the form of political pressures the west might make on Russia. ...

Re: Best Video Game

For a singleplayer game, my vote would have to go to Baldur's Gate II: Shadow of Amn (PC - 2001). It's level of detail, storyline and overall awesomeness surpasses that of any ofther game I've had the pleasure or misfortune of getting my hands on. As for multiplayer, Team Fortress 2 (PC - 2008) kick...

Re: Music to fall asleep to

Yeah, Hope's voice has an amazing way of soothing your mind, lightening your heartbeat and sending you to Lala land; daydreaming or not. If you like that album you should definetly check out her Mazzy Star work.
Besides that, well, I go for Enya, Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Moby and various folk music.
