Re: Is gravity delayed or instant?

Um. That's not how paired electrons work. At all. It's not "flipping" from one state to another. It's measurement. If you measure the spin of one of a pair of electron to be "up", then you know that the other one will come out to be "down". But after you've measured it...

Re: Is gravity delayed or instant?

This subject has really messed with my head in recent years because I was always under the impression that gravity acted in the same way that separated, paired electrons do (See John Gribbins' book - Schrodingers Kittens, can't remember the exact page reference) The basic theory was that two separat...

Re: "What xkcd Means" Discussion

xkcd is making geeks feel socially acceptable :) and also strangely cool.

A friend of mine who teaches English also said that "X K C D" are the four sharpest sounding letters in the English Alphabet. Strange but true.

Re: Favorite home experiments

Yeah, the smoke bomb thing is definatly More KNO3 than sugar. It works without heating it up too, but doesnt last as long or produce as much smoke. And the Nitric / Sulphuric acid mixture? That's one step off nitro glycerine! Just add Glycerol and you're left with a very unstable substance. I dont k...

Exploding Paste (ass seen on UK tv show Brainiac:) First of all, you need only two ingredients: Iodine crystals and Ammonium Hydroxide. You can get the iodine at pharmacies (you may have to sign for it). If you work in a lab of somekind (like me) you can get hold of Ammonium Hydroxide quite easily, ...

Resident Evil 4

OK, I dont normally do scary games - but I've read the reviews for this and it looks ACE. And seeing as it's just been ported to the Wii from the Gamecube and PS2 versions I thought I'd give it a go. The main question I'd like to ask though is do I need to know the story for the other 3 in order to ...

I've had a quick scout over the other threads and don't believe this one has been highlighted before. What are your thoughts on the future of human genetic modification / manipulation? More specifically, where should we draw the line. The following descisions may only apply to in-vitro fertilisation...

A random, random number

Ok, strictly speaking this isnt a true puzzle, as I dont have the answer...but I'm hoping someone does.
