Re: 0978: "Citogenesis"

There's a firefox plugin that somewhat addresses the problem: http://www.wikitrust.net/home
Project was started by a research group of in UC Santa Cruz a few years back, very nice approach - you can look up papers here: http://www.wikitrust.net/talks-and-papers

Re: 0967: Prairie

Randal - don't be lazy on your homework. Particle, by definition, is an entity that have well defined, sharp, unchanging energy spectrum. That's how one can detect particles - by observing interactions again and again at the same, well defined energy levels. And amber waves (even coherent!) do not h...

Re: 0965: "Elements"

I never watched the show, so I'm not exactly sure how this element bending works, but it seems to me that carbon benders would be pretty scary. Just like ritual magic. Bender is supposed to make macroscopic movements with his/her limbs in correlation with the random macroscopic movements of large a...

Re: 0955: "Neutrinos"

If I understand correctly, this is the result of multiple experiments done over a period of time, not just a one time thing. And they are asking for someone to try and replicate their results and go over their findings with a fine tooth comb because it is such a huge impact on our understanding of ...

Re: 0955: "Neutrinos"

It would be nice if you could set up a direct "race" between the photons and the neutrinos, for hidden errors would be much less likely. But part of the reason why these results are so difficult to believe is that we have done just this (or, rather, not so much "done" as luckily...

Re: 0950: "Mystery Solved"

What if she was travelling at relativistic speeds? If she was going around the earth more than once, then the time-dilation could explain the apparent time jump, and also, you wouldn't really be able to see an object moving at near light speed at the altitude she was likely flying at, thus explaini...

Re: 0950: "Mystery Solved"

Well, it doesn't look like much time had passed for her [lively step on the panel two, food fuel supplies, easily recognizable,... etc]. Which could only mean she had traveled forward in time. Or adapted to the biological processes of a time vulture. Hehe. "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead.&...

Re: 0950: "Mystery Solved"

Well, it doesn't look like much time had passed for her [lively step on the panel two, food fuel supplies, easily recognizable,... etc]. Which could only mean she had traveled forward in time. The simplest explanation to that is a relativistic effect. So she traveled with the speed very close to the...
