Re: 1190: "Time"

Live updating GIF: http://primis.org/time/output.gif Feel free to give me an internet for the service :D You've received something like 160 internets in the past couple of hours thanks to this. Nice job! I have one suggestion/twerk for it, though. Add a start frame (just the word BEGIN or something...

Re: 0947: “Investing”

That's why you invest 10,000 to start. Not 1,000. The more you invest the more you get for free. You can simultaneously "make more money" like the comic states and invest. The invested money literally does nothing but give you more money. To not invest is to be retarded! Except if inflati...

Re: 0868: "Nolan Chart"

The problems with the Nolan quiz are extensively detailed here by Mark Rupright. Most interesting is his "modest proposal" <snipped for space> I'd actually answer yes to pretty much all of those. I'm genuinely surprised at how many people want the government to have complete control over ...

Re: 0854: "Learning to Cook"

People always moan that cooking is expensive. It's not. It can't be more expensive than takeaways or buying pre-made. The economics don't work out. Any restaurant or food manufacturer has to make a profit, so any manufactured food you buy has to include the cost of the ingredients, plus labour cost...

I'm not sure why the other thread has way more views and replies, since this one was first (and fully correct in formatting without an edit marker, kudos).

Re: "Exoplanets" Discussion (#786)

Correction: in slide 3, "cultures" should read "cultural" or "culture's" No, it shouldn't. "...if one of earth's cultures advances its space program enough..." is grammatically correct. You seem to think it read something like, "...if one of earth's cult...

Re: "Creepy" Discussion

Point 1. Men in general (excluding those who do not have sexual interest in the female species) just want to get in your pants. The only ones that don't, you simply aren't their type. Many, many, many studies prove this time and time again. Men just want to have sex with random women all the time. ...

Re: "Creepy" Discussion

Speaking as a girl who has a cute netbook for about a year now, I'm sort of in love with this comic. Slight tweaks on this happen all the time, my favorite being last week at a coffeeshop- <snip for space> I know this is tangential to your point, I can see why your potential beau would think that u...

Re: "Papyrus" Discussion

And the work that the companies did to make the hundreds of letters have proper/consistent shapes isn't worth anything? How are they supposed to get paid? I think since Helvetica was developed in 1957, the company has long passed the "recoup costs" phase and entered the "sit back and...

Re: "Papyrus" Discussion

After reading this thread, I went to open Microsoft Word 2003 (the version on my work computer) to see what Helvetica looked like, since almost all the "font snobs" in this thread say it's the best thing since sliced bread or something, and was sad to see it wasn't on the list. I then went...

Re: Converting to Metric

Oooh, so a pen is exactly a centimeter taller than a penis? That could be useful... I could ask those of you decrying the use of Imperial units here whether you're typing on a Dvorak or Qwerty keyboard Well where I live Dvorak keyboards are kinda hard to find, but I take it metric rulers are widely...

Re: Converting to Metric

There aren't really more different units than in the metric system (in fact, given how many metric prefixes exist, there are almost definitely LESS), they just aren't neat orders of magnitude of each other with understood prefixes modifying common suffixes. Hmmm, sorry, I will disagree with you. Si...

Re: Converting to Metric

On the subject can anyone summarise that crazy imperial weight/volume system? Ounces, pounds, fluid ounces, gallons whaaaaaa! Summary is, unfortunately, impossible as it's not a system but a pile of random names thrown together. Note also that while the US customary and the old Imperial/English sys...

Re: "Friends" Discussion

My advisor was like you. I'm probably closer to him than most student/advisors. I had to take him to the emergency room for psychiatric evaluation after he had a personal meltdown triggered by his realization of having no close friends (but me, sort of), no family, and DEFINITELY no wife. He is 50 ...

Re: "Friends" Discussion

I think you need to quickly decide how much women, companionship and sex matter to you; and if they are important (and I suspect they are) then it might be time to consider taking some serious action... up to, and including, finding a new job or changing careers if it will help you interact with wo...

Re: "Friends" Discussion

2. It really is the boy's imperative to ask the girl out. As an extremely shy person that works night shift for a technical company (and thus rarely interacts with females on a daily basis at all, and the two that exist in any part of my world are married) this very much sucks. As in "I'll be ...

Re: An input/output puzzle thread

Are you sure the output for 4 is 1 and not 2? I have a theory that works for every input so far except 4. Edit: Nevermind. Doesn't hold up to 57 or 34 either. Funny how it does work for 1-3, 5-20, 1132, and the multiples of 10 listed. I thought it was number of vowels in the number when spelled out....
