### Re: GPS messed up?

Because GPS works by measuring distance to multiple satellites concurrently, and having precise ephemerides for each SV, thereby calculating position by solving the n-dimensional matrix for distance of each satellite. If the ephemerides are borked, so is GPS. Sure, but the satellite orbits aren't c...

### GPS messed up?

So I don't get why GPS would be all messed up right off the bat. Yes, GPS is dependent upon very precise timing. But that's presumably timing for the satellites, not anything on the earth's surface. As GPS works in 3D (reporting altitude in addition to latitude and longitude), including in flight ab...

### Water level

Anyone else notice that the water level is slowly creeping higher? When run at high speed, the progression of the images shows that the water level has only increased, never decreased.

(Sorry if someone else noticed this. I can't keep up with hundreds of pages of comments!)

Here's one data point: I'm 40 and I never use a hyphen before the options.

\$ tar cvzf - <somefilenames> | ssh <remote> "tar xvzf - " Of course this will simply untar in the home directory, it's nicer to actually do the command *from* the remote server It's easier to just add the "cd" into the command: \$ tar cvzf - <somefilenames> | ssh <remote> "s...

That's it! The "times" after the "1 cent" should be a "divide". That solves it.

### Re: What-If 0022: Cost of Pennies

I'm blocked on the first formula, the one where Randall calculated the miles at which the weight of one penny would decrease mileage to the point where it would cost \$0.01. I ran the following through Wolfram Alpha: "1 cent*((2.73 g / 50 lbs) * 0.5% * (\$3.50/gallon))/30 miles/gallon". (Sor...
