Re: 1818: "Rayleigh Scattering"

3. An interesting question would be: Why are children interested in the color of sky and trees, but not in the color of other things, like tomatoes, or anything else? Why are they content with some answers, but not others? Why are so many people puzzled by magneticism but not by gravity? I find the...

Re: 1683: "Digital Data"

Paper is an interesting fallback, but people are missing the fact that in practice, paper is a very low-quality storage medium, and is much of the reason that we are so ignorant of so much of our history. Information that people actually decide they want to keep might be better kept in binary form ...

Re: 1624: 2016

I pretty much figured the 1996 things, but... Hips Don't Lie was 2006? I could have sworn it was earlier and Cars was later. I still see Cars merchandise around sometimes and Hips Don't Lie feels like it should have been part of my teens. When was Jenny from the Block? Paid My Dues?

Re: 1616: "Lunch"

...how are the raw ingredients meant to be gross? Or is it just when accumulated into one lump that makes you realise the quantity of cheese you're eating? Good fresh bread, some fresh tomato sauce and a block of reasonably nice cheese, plus a small pile of salt, sound like something that might be ...

You do know that the SCP Foundation is just a collection of creepypastas and completely fictional, right?

Re: 1582: "Picture a Grassy Field"

Fact is, Roko's Basilisk is a stupid concept because, were it to exist, all it would be doing is creating its own worst enemy. Humans can learn, we can think, we can modify and improve ourselves, and if a godlike, malevolent super-AI decides to keep simulations of us alive indefinitely and even resu...

Not if you just came from The Martian, it isn't.

Re: 1492: "Dress color"

I can't really even understand where the idea that any part of the dress might be black is coming from. Weird lighting and bad exposures could potentially make a white dress look blue, but no amount of bad photography can make black look gold/bronze, can it? Someone will need to explain this one to...

Re: 1227: "The Pace of Modern Life"

More recent ancestors got on dangerous little boats to cross the Atlantic and get away from those parasitic bastards, coming here to America to work their asses off dawn to dusk and KEEP most of what they gathered. That's not how it went, actually. Your ancestors were religious fanatics who got on ...

Re: 1150: Instagram

There is a huge fallacy in that comic, that is just like going to the north pole, and then at that exact place, saying “I will now go north!”: Just like the above statement in that context, saying “property” in the context of information makes no sense. It is not related to reality. In reality, the...

Bottom line? Sure, it's HIV. At worst, however, cause sexually-transmitted immunosuppression of cancer if it somehow pops out of the modified T-cells... (Usually the genes involved in that get removed, too; every last codon counts!) I am a bit baffled by your use of "at worst" here. Would...

Re: 1145: "Sky Color"

I almost forgot, left and right are special, as there is no possible way of defining them without left and right already being established. (just imagine trying to define "left" to someone over radio) "Okay, stand up straight and be very still. Try to concentrate on your heartbeat. C...

Re: 1143:"Location"

Eh, this Ingress thing just seems like a transparent ploy by Google to get an up-to-date database of where everyone is at any given point in time so when they decide to round up the people who are badmouthing them, they'll have an easier job.
