Re: 1173: Steriods

You can follow the definitions down, but the comic points out rather well that defining living things (and, on that basis, placing them in moral categories) is an entirely arbitrary process unless you believe in a Creator and Lawgiver. This argument is assuming what it sets out to prove. It only ma...

Re: 1173: Steriods

If you improve your position in chess by removing the opponent's pieces from the board, why is it cheating to remove a pawn when they're out of the room? Because it would be too easy to win that way, so everyone's agreed to act as if it can't be done. To a being from a world without board games, thi...

The Scholar and the Moon.

The latest episode of Bizarrocast features my story 'The Scholar and the Moon'. You can listen to it here.

For those that are into role-playing games: this is the most D&D-like story I've written. In fact it was inspired by a specific part of the original D&D rules.

I've recently put out an ebook of my writing, called The New Death and others . Here's the blurb: --- Death gets a roommate... An electronic Pope faces a difficult theological question... A wicked vizier makes a terrible bargain... 44 stories. 19 poems. No whiny vampires. There's a thin line between...

Re: Twins in a Maze

Spoiler:
You could come up with a formula that's effectively random ('go left if an even number of seconds have passed since I was dropped in the maze...' or 'take the next unused digit of pi...') Given infinite time to explore a finite space, you'll meet up eventually.

The answer depends on what knowledge Monty has and what strategy he's following. The wikipedia article on this has a good discussion of various possibilities.
