Re: 1742: "Will It Work"

Being a person who loves things like Lisp and simple window managing stuff, I have yet to see that the Sawfish window manager works out of the box in Ubuntu or Mint Linux distributions. Installing directly from the package manager "aptitude install sawfish" and is thus the "very like...

Re: 1685 : Patch

A friend of mine found a python autocomplete that evaluates your code to figure out the autocomplete, so that's kind of like compiling it? I mean I know that Python can't be compiled by definition but that the same concepts, at least. Like the vast majority of modern language implementations, all i...

Re: 1660: "Captain Speaking"

At least he knew what kind of plane it was. When this happened to me I couldn't even tell it was a 787. The passengers that survived were such whiners. It is not like I killed everyone. It may be "some kind of of Boeing" but it's definitely not a 787, which doesn't have such prominent win...

Re: 1573: "Cyberintelligence"

Speaking of organisations that are trying too hard and out of date, have you seen the NSA kid's zone website? I kind of feel sorry for them because they're trying so hard. https://www.nsa.gov/kids/home.shtml They're not really trying that hard. It's a five year old Flash site most likely developed ...

Re: 1572: "xkcd Survey"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun?" English is not my mother tongue. Does this mean what I think it means? Probably not. "in" != "inside" in this context. Statistician gripe: it's impossible for us to come up with random words, even selecting from the words we kno...

Re: 1218: "Doors of Durin"

Sci-fi is about positing a hypothetical scenario (usually by altering or making up a law of physics, or some specific application of thereof) and examining the implications. I fail to see how altering or making up a law of physics is distinct from fantasy, since that could easily encompass any kind...

Re: What-If 0030: Interplanetary Cessna

I wonder why he chose a Cessna rather than a commercial airliner. That's what I think of when I think of "normal aircraft" First, there are both commercial and private Cessnas. Some are even used for airline service. Second, many if not all of the atmospheres in which the plane would fly ...

Since the pound is a unit of force, "poundal" would be entirely redundant.
