Re: Religion: The Deuce

The term christian isn't about dying on a cross, nor performing a sacrifice for God's children. By christian it is meant to take upon oneself the name of Christ. to try to be like him. I (and Nietzsche) never said it was. I interpret the statement as people are not understanding the message of Chri...

Re: Religion: The Deuce

I would like to discuss this: The very word "Christianity" is a misunderstanding — in truth, there was only one Christian, and he died on the cross. To me, TV evangelists and Jesus don't really go hand in hand. I remember some statistic about how few people claiming to be Christian have re...

Re: Post-Rock

While Explosions in the Sky are a good example of what post-rock is, they're probably one of my least favorite post-rock bands. They've got all the major trappings of the genre, but they also don't do anything particularly interesting. I liked them when I first heard them, but they don't have the d...

I think Hitler already spent most of his life trying his very very hardest to do good things. The difference is, his notion of the good differs from ours. That's just what I was thinking while reading this thread. I can't help but think of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World Revisited (probably because...

Re: House of omgwhyamIturningmybook Leaves.

I may or may not have torrented the book in question here... If you can, get a physical copy. It will make a world of difference. House of Leaves was an amazing experience. I tried describing the book to somebody, tried to give them some insight into the scope, the terror, the wonder of it all, but...

Re: Post-Rock

Anyhow, I recently got a copy of All Of a Sudden I Miss Everyone . It's pretty good, but I just can't see myself getting too terribly into the whole post-rock vibe. I can't really explain my feelings on it, though. The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place may change your views on that, at least for EITS.

They're only available in the international version which cannot be played on a US model PS2 so sadly no, I have not. The only thing that makes those fights any harder though is that they require more luck stat. Also, they nerfed quick hit considerably so you tend to rely more on your overpowered o...

Re: Melbourne meet-up?

1.30pm sounds good to me, are we agreed on that? There's the botanic gardens near Flinders, we could go there and pick up our picnic food independently beforehand. Or we could meet up at Southern Cross as suggested... though I don't know of any parks near there. 1:30 seems to be the consensus. I th...

1.30 pm? At which station? I'm in, but there is nowhere picnicy that close to either of those stations.... are we bring supplies or purchasing there? Timing, and the fact that the joke is half on the viewer. Meta-humour, as lanicita said. How long will you laugh at this for? And what if we just started it again at random later in the episode? So the joke is actually on the audience, who's supposed to recognise that they're laughing at nothing an...
