Re: How do W bosons behave electromagnetically?

The "Watom" would be a fermion, so it would be more like deuterium than protium. The electron orbit wouldn't be affected at all by it's strange new nucleus? It seems so strange to me that the only thing preventing gauge bosons from mixing with our mundane chemicals is that they decay too q...

How do W bosons behave electromagnetically?

Could the W+ or W- bosons exist in electromagnetically bound states? A neutral W + e - "atom" for instance. I understand that W bosons decay very quickly into much lighter particles. Are there other reasons such a situation would not be possible? How would this Watom behave if it formed? W...

Re: How would a blind race become a space faring civilization?

Interesting to think of a people who hear or feel, or even taste or smell, the sky. If the species has a good sense of hearing then that's probably the best way to use instruments to see long distance immediately. It could even be one before computers are invented. Convert electromagnetic radiation ...

If all you have is a shovel, I'd like to point your attention to a much smaller project. It is certainly not as ambitious as your other ideas, but successful completion would likely improve confidence among investors, hopefully allowing you to take out a loan for a second shovel within a few years....

So melting a hole in Antarctica is 10 billion times easier than I thought. Exactly. So... Does that mean that you're in on this little project, then? (You might have to bring your own shovel. The budget's a bit tight.) I'm not convinced it will stay in one peace for even a year. The entire "sh...

Africa (19 MB) largeafricatopographic.jpg World (39 MB) Relief_World_Map_by_maps-for-free.jpg The straits of Gibraltar are only 15 km wide, and between 300-900 meters wide. What is the largest possible artificial lake we could make today?

Humanity has made some impressive changes to the Earth's surface, but even our largest structures are dwarfed by small mountains, and our greatest mines are incomparable to some of the holes earth has made with erosion or tectonics. Probably the closest we have come to nature in scale is with lakes....

I suffer from amusia so when I say "good" music I mean interesting. i find it fascinating how most people can listen to a song dozens of times without taking note of the lyrics, whereas it is all I care about. (And the volume. Quiet is good.)
