Re: 1357: "Free Speech"

I don't understand. If I create a public forum and some guy starts ranting some racists shot, am I forced to give him bandwidth? According to all of you, I can't stop him in my own site? If we have a large Game of Thrones community and someone starts to post spoilers, can't we decide to remove his ...

Re: 1357: "Free Speech"

dull conversation. I dont get to think about my own positions: Once conformity is achieved (and even before, when the "battle lines" get drawn) it gets harder to think about the question itself. When asked "do you believe in equal marriage? do you believe gay people should be allowed...

Re: 1357: "Free Speech"

I wish I could say what I want without saying who I am. I'll mostly argue against litmus tests such as the one the creator of javascript did not pass. But, hoping to increase the probability of being heard, I say am 100% for gay marriage: In my ideal world, it would be **obviously not an issue**. (w...

Re: 1325: "Rejection"

what the guy in the comic is saying is that Women are liars. Ultimately, that's it. He is calling ALL women liars. That's sexist. There's no argument here in regards to the actual comic. Let's assume that. (it is a reasonable thing to assume) Now, we have a sexist guy with a wrong belief. This beli...

Re: Justifying L'Hopital to an ambitious undergrad

My intuition so far (and I'll confess it is not complete) is: 1)take two functions f ang g going to infinity. Say that, from a given n, their derivatives are fixed (i.e., f '(x) = c if x>10, g '(x) = d if x>10). After a while the values of f and g are 'dominated' by these derivatives (f(100) = f(10)...

Re: Free Antivirus/Anti-malware

I like avast.

(I mostly use ubuntu, though ... So, not an expert)

Avast does not seem to slow my computer down much (and I have a 3 years old netbook) and it reports changes in a very agreable voice (I am slowly disabling it, as it gets annoying, but it is quite pleasant the first few times =P)

Re: Help With Installing Ubuntu 12.04

I am not sure what are your needs exactly. One very easy option would be to use WUBI, the windows installer for ubuntu you would not need to partition anything. There are some (small) losses (it appears that a Ubuntu installed with wubi does not hibernate well), but the instalation is trival To use ...

Re: What-If 0032: Hubble

So ...

did anyone understand that business about the atmosphere being more of a problem to look from earth to space than from space to earth ?

(I, for one, only know the basic facts about diffraction. Explanations on that level might earn cookies)
