Re: Eyeless in Gaza

Indulge me. 1972 is obvious not an act of aggression on the part of Egypt, Jordan have not properly been at war with Israel since 1967 (no major violent act, especially not by a state actor), Syria the same. Of course it takes some serious double think to conclude that Hamas and Hezbollah were aggr...

Re: Been in military service? Why?

I am currently a senior at West Point and having already committed will serve at least 8 years in the U.S. Army upon graduation this May. I joined the military for a variety of reasons. To be perfectly honest I think my initial interest in such a career was due to a general liking of strategy, histo...

From the New York Times: The United States and North Korea fell into an acrimonious exchange on Thursday, with the North Korean government ridiculing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton as a “schoolgirl” and a “pensioner,” two days after she referred to its leaders as “unruly children.” ... “W...

To my knowledge the U.S. government has never claimed in this conflict to have gathered information from an official policy of torture, though they use terms that might suggest this took place (and I don't doubt it did).

Yeah that's a pretty silly argument. That's like saying that in 2002 there were nearly 43,000 auto deaths in the United States and 3,000 from 9/11 the year before so clearly the U.S. shouldn't have responded that harshly by going into Afghanistan and attacking Al-Qaeda worldwide. Perhaps not. Israel doesn't occupy the West Bank and you don't have nearly the sort of problem there. The first step is to get the rockets to stop, and then there are a number of directions you can go from there without rocket attacks neccesarily returning, such as then bringing in massive humanitar...

Send in ground troops, and stop dropping bombs. That would be a start. If what is being done is terrible, then stop doing it. Why would you keep it up? True, but Fatah itself isn't labelled as a terrorist organization like Hamas, and they're far more moderate--or at least pragmatic, and its the best there is right now among the Palestinian leadership as a partner for peace. Abbas at least seems moderate indeed.
