Re: 1401: "New"

The title text of the comic itself has a typo: “The nice thing about headcannnons […]”. “headcannnons” should be “headcannons”.

Re: 1358: "NRO"

People have already discussed how to find Waldo with software here: Stack Overflow – How do I find Waldo with Mathematica? Though nobody has yet posted a ready-made solution there that works on any Where’s Waldo image, so I wouldn’t call those NRO guys foolish for not looking at it.

Re: 1237: "QR Code"

I'm still unclear what the problem is... Most QR Code scanner apps, at least as far as most of their users know, can only scan QR codes in real-time, using the camera on the back of the phone. However, if someone tries to do use the camera to scan the QR code on the screen, they will be trying to t...

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but here's a google maps-esque version with zoom buttons and all. It even loads quickly! http://xkcd-map.rent-a-geek.de/#10 Better version of the link: http://xkcd-map.rent-a-geek.de/ . That link, without the “#10”, shows the first three panels of the comic...

Re: 0997: "Wait Wait"

Also as much as I want to criticize Randall for constantly referencing Internet memes, I actually laughed out loud at the "Wait Wait Don't Me" one. And nothing else. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to explain that one to me. It’s based on a meme where somebody says “I accidentally th...

So how is one locked out of their own dorm room? I never lived in a dorm in college, but I visited plenty, and there's no way to lock out your roommate, save barricading the door. The university's housing department would not look kindly upon someone blocking access to a space for which someone is ...

Ironically, we have many people on this thread posting the same examples of threads like the one in the comic. For instance, six or so people have already posted about when you realize you wrote the original question. If you consider the purpose of this thread to enumerate the variations on this pro...

Re: 0974: "The General Problem"

When I first read this comic, I thought the joke would be that the other guy was wondering if he really can pass the salt. Like, he’s wondering if it would still be considered “the salt” by the time he picks it up, or something philosophical like that.

Those tickled by this comic may be interested in lesswrong.com. Considering the guy who runs this site is a well-known con artist who's probably just out to part more fools from their money with his phony "charity", I'd take anything posted there with a big grain of salt. Sorry to be a pa...

Ever notice how there aren’t as many thunderstorms now as there were when you were a kid? … this is occasionally true but universally believed. Excuuuse me? Universally believed? I grew up in Egypt, where there is something like one thunderstorm every 5 years. I currently live in the U.S., where I’...

Re: "University Website" discussion (#773)

My university’s main website http://drexel.edu/ can be hard to navigate, but they recently introduced a categorized portal subsite that provides easy links to everything on the right side of the comic at http://www.drexel.edu/blueline/ (named Blue Line after some subway line or something). It works ...

Re: "Literally" Discussion

Pappy Hants makes interesting points about how “really” and other words have already been corrupted, and we can still communicate fine. It seems that this is his overall message: "English is already an illogical language; why bother making it intrinsically clear as long as we humans can still g...

Re: "Climbing" discussion

The way I first saw the comic, in the first panel, the man had been hurled to the right along with some debris, and in the second panel, everything hit a wall and stuck there. Thinking of the comic this way makes it look a lot cooler (and more surreal).

When I first saw the colors of the trees, before reading the text, I thought they were on fire. (I come from a country with neither brown-leaved trees nor snow.) I suppose the guy's text could also be "Instead of driving all this way, we could've just set the trees on fire back in the summer&qu...

"Tab Explosion" Discussion

My first time: “Randall, get out of my head!” So yeah, I've been rereading TVTropes starting a few days ago, and managed to escape yesterday. I vowed that I would not go back for a week, and this comic already made me break that by visiting two pages. Thankfully, I managed to close them. And yeah, I...

Sadly, changing systems isn't just a matter of suddenly using new units on all "official" materials, but of reprogramming the public. I could ask those of you decrying the use of Imperial units here whether you're typing on a Dvorak or Qwerty keyboard, as it's been fairly definitively pro...

Years ago, I used do to this equivalent: I shouted "I'm home!", and if I got no answer after calling "Hello!" a few more times, I said, "I know you're hiding", and started to glance in my family members' bedrooms. (Then, of course, I saw no one and gave up). I remember ...

"Height" comic vectorized PDF

For those who want a poster but don't have the time/money/goodwill to order one from Randall by clicking on the comic, I vectorized this comic using Vector Magic desktop. Attached is a PDF version of this comic. I made some small fixes to the lettering, but I know there are still plenty of small vec...
